So wouldn't schools located in lower population states like Iowa be at a disadvantage because there is not as many businesses as the higher population areas? For example, if one school is close to 500 business and the other is close to 200 businesses it would seem there are more opportunities for kids to earn more money if they go to higher population areas. Nebraska is a lower population state, but their fan base will do whatever it takes to help the players with NIL. Plus, they do not have another school in state to compete with like we do.

Yeah, this has me slightly worried. I can see a bunch of kids getting taken advantage of or being given horrible advice. It seems to happen a bunch in the NFL and other pro level sports. Can only imagine what it'll be like with a bunch of kids who are 4-5 years younger and don't have the support system (even if it itsn't great) that the pro leagues have for their rookies.
Maybe the tax lawyers and accountants can really get in on the game at that level? "I'm Brock Purdy and I get my Taxes done at {insert name of tax company done here}"
You would think, but I have a 50 year old client who just throws the 1099's away no matter how many times I tell him I need each and everyone of them.
anti competitive practices of the NCAA? So we don't want a level playing field in college football? IMO, the only difference in programs should be donor money to the athletic department. TV, it should be the same for every P5 school across the nation. We shouldn't have a P5 league dying on the vine like the Pac 12. College Football needs a governing body otherwise get used to the SEC and Big 10 getting even more money and resources than everyone else.
I did some contracting work for 2 years in my late 20's and made a comedy of errors when it came to being 1099 worker and the IRS ate my lunch. I'm really hoping these young adults have a better go at it then I did.

Yes, the NCAA engages in anti competitive behavior. They artificially limit what a scholarship can include. They have historically controlled the movement, rights and monetization of players, while also dominating the main paths to the professional leagues. They have a monopsony and have exploited it for massive profit. That's absolutely anti-competitive.

I don’t think it’s good for Iowa State but I do support the players ability to make money off their NIL. If they provide value in the marketplace they should be able to capitalize on that.
The Miami FL deal clearly violates FL NIL Law that requires NIL compensation be commensurate with market value and cannot be provided in exchange for athletics performance or attendance at Miami FL.
The question should be, is it good for Iowa State athletes relative to another schools athletes? Of course it's good for Iowa State athletes... the ones that choose to come here. Problem is we have to get them here first.
So are these students professional athletes now? I guess it doesn't matter anymore? I have no idea what impact this will have. My personal feeling is that college athletics will not survive. Sure football and basketball will for the haves, but the sports that are funded by the revenue the schools make on fb and bb will drop dramatically.

I clearly don't know all the details, but if I was preparing his taxes and had knowledge of this, I am not sure how I would still be doing his taxes. Aren't you a willing player in tax fraud?
Not necessarily fraud...the customer might not be taking any deductions/credits or claiming any advantage at all for these activities.
This is basically the Olympic model and the olympics seem to be humming along nicely.
Why will the funding for non revenue sports drop dramatically?
