Miami Building Collapse

A kid survived by being protected by what sounds like either being under the bed or being on the bottom bunk of bunk beds.

Eh, I don't know where his parents bought his bed but if it can stand up to literally tons of concrete I want three of them.

Pretty sure it’s the same build quality of my loft my dad made for me in college

There's a complex with the exact same design a couple buildings over from this one along the beach. Can't say I'd want to stay there tonight if I lived there

it's a lot easier said than done for many people but I'd be moving

Yeah, probably pretty hard for those that own the units. Not gonna find many buyers right now.

I'm not sure what the average condo goes for down there, but apparently a 3 bedroom in that building sold for over 900,000 last year.

They said units for sale in this building were going for like 700k right now. That’s a lot of scrilla.

Sounds like a great investment opportunity in the other building. Buy now at a massive discount, sell for 2x as much in 3 years when everyone has forgotten about this/engineers have verified the other building isn't going anywhere.

Structural Engineer here: buildings can and are designed for initial and long term settlement. The fact that this building doesn't appear to have "settled out" says a lot however still lots of facts/investigation still to come I'm sure. I'd be interested to see a soil boring profile (though I'm not a geotechnical expert by any means) at this building location as well as what foundation support (if any) was used such as caissons, piles, ect.

Obviously this is a tragedy and a horror for those killed and injured...

But I am assuming a renter's or owner's insurance for a condo covers the loss, right?

Not sure how "the ******* building fell over" gets adjusted.
