Re: What's Wrong with McCarney???

With the history of our program, one 4-8 season should not have been enough to fire him. I say bring him back and let him turn things around.

Perhaps one 4-8 season shouldn't have been enough, but you must have forgotten he had two 4 win seasons, two 3 win seasons, two 2 win seasons, and one 1 win season.

I've heard all of the pro-DM arguments and listened to them for 12 years. When will people let it go? He is gone. He was given 12 years to build a program and left with a 52 - 77 record. Time to move on.

Re: What's Wrong with McCarney???

Whats wrong with Mac? Probably the same thing that was wrong with him just a couple years ago. Everyone is thankful for what he did for ISU, but ISU can and WILL do better!

I would love to know what was wrong with him a couple years ago...I personally never wanted him to go...and PROVE that ISU will do better, because we have yet to...

He got us to new places, but he couldn't sustain and/or get to higher places.

If you look at his record as a whole, yes, that is true...except he DID build the program. He had winning seasons in 5 out of 6 seasons...when has Iowa State done that before???

Probably when we hire someone better than him. I'm not in the Mac bandwagon, but I can see where these people are coming from. Turner Gill would make us quickly forget about both IMO.

Coaching Trade?

I don't know about everyone out there, but in a heartbeat I would take Tubberville over Chizik. Give me your thoughts on this...

Maybe you should read URBCLONE's post so I don't have to type it over again. I guess I could talk about his recruiting and how he never really brought a lot of talent in. I know he brought in some, but not too much. How he never capitalized on bowl victories when hitting the recruiting trail. Also if you didn't want him gone your part of probably the 15% that wanted him to stay.

Re: What's Wrong with McCarney???

We have been to 9 bowl games, 5 of them under McCarney. He also led the Cyclones to 3 straight bowl games, first time in school history. Speaking of school history, he won a school record 9 games in 2000.

With the history of our program, one 4-8 season should not have been enough to fire him. I say bring him back and let him turn things around.

What you post is true, but Jamie promised to take us to the next level and he delivered, in the form of a coach who is leaving with the lowest winning percentage in ISU football history (which says a lot).

Dan's return would probably get us back to a bowl of some sort faster than any other choice but it would not reunite a split fan base and he is not going to return and work for Pollard.

Personally, I'd like to get rid of Jamie and see Dan return not as our football coach, but as our athletic director.

Re: Coaching Trade?

I would take him too. Problem is that Tubberville can go almost anywhere and will wait a year if he has to.

ND will be an open job next year, barring any kind of miracle..

It's not hard for me to remember a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, the last year of McCarney's reign, I only saw one game.

Oh wait, nevermind. I saw all 12 games (10 in person), they all just looked identical. Same playcalling, same lack of adjustments, same inability to win on the road, same lack of enthusiasm from the players, just different colors on the field. And no forseeable help coming with the recruting class.

Don't get me wrong, I like Dan McCarney. I think he's a great coordinator. That's just it, he's a good coordinator.

We should have been 0-12 that year.

Wow, this is the first I've seen him mentioned. Good thing there's another thread on this.

I don't think its a matter of us going after him.
It would be him wanting to come here.
He has that program built up to something great why leave?
If he would leave though... he's my #1 choice.
