Head Coach

Re: Paul Clark lets Loose!

I do believe our next head coach can't do any worse than what we'd probably see next season anyway with Chizik at the helm.
Hell yes, he can do a lot worse than Chizik would have done--because Chizik had at least patched the two huge holes, at safety and strongside defensive end. If the new coach doesnt manage to at least retain the current commits, or bring in someone as good or better, this defense could be one hell of a lot worse.

Re: Paul Clark lets Loose!

What a great article, I completely agree with it. I believe what he said, and felt the same way for a while. Similarly, I never saw the point in going off on Chizik as it didn't serve any constructive purpose in year 1 or 2, and he deserved a chance. However, glaring coaching errors, which some people unfortunately blamed on player talent, was obvious.

Re: Paul Clark lets Loose!

I agree with Paul Clark 200%!!! What a disaster of a hire chizik was, to begin with the guy never knew what a ceo was let alone be a ceo of a football program that his boss Jamie wanted!!!

I've got a word of caution for our esteemed ad mr jamie pollard...make sure your next football hire is the rite on because it mite just be your LAST HIRE AT ISU!!!

I'm getting really tired boys of a totally incompetent football program and 10 straight losses is about more than I can stomach...wait a minute I have to go Puke My Guts Up just thinking of the job Chizik has done at ISU!!!

I have to disagree on a couple of counts. I thought our safety play was beyond terrible. Couple that with the COMPLETE inability of our linebackers to cover anyone... and in a pass happy Big 12 you get a disaster.

One bright spot on defense was probably Kurtis Taylor. And I think Chizik had very little to do with his progress. Taylor is a 5th year guy who has finally healthy.

I am not too worried about losing commits or even current players...yet. None of the current players are going anywhere until we name a new coach. The commits may bolt, but there is not much we can do about that... so no use worrying about it!!!

Re: Paul Clark lets Loose!

Some of you have real issues and act like 15 year olds. Paul Clark has done more for ISU athletics in 10 years than most of you will do in a lifetime and he buried some of this stuff in the interest of ISU. He is coming clean now that the Chizik era is over. Give it a rest with the persoanl insults. The guy is upright and speaks the truth.

Agreed. This guy has been a great source for ISU information for quite some time now. He bleeds cardinal and gold which these days is something quite rare with those that cover the Cyclones and even those in the Cyclone Athletic Family.

Can you even argue his points about Chizik being a total failure as a head coach? It was clear as day that he was in way over his head.

Maybe the real reason Chizik left is that he realized that his days in Ames were numbered with the kind of numbers that he and his staff were putting up? I tend to think that this ultimately was his reasoning for jumping ship and abandoning his players.

Ultimately the most damning thing is what the Auburn fans and boosters are saying about his being hired as their new head coach. To say that they are disappointed would be a huge understatement. Much like he did at Iowa State he is going to take Auburn to new lows and the guy that is currently laughing his *** off is Nick Saban. You don't get many cupcakes in conference in the SEC but now he has one every single year in Auburn. I give Chizik 2 years at Auburn with the lack of support from the fanbase before he is out of a job there as well.

Wonder how fast we can get Auburn on the schedule? Easy wins are hard to come by these days and we all know what direction their program is heading in the future. Straight down the crapper to the sound of swirling water.

Re: Paul Clark lets Loose!

No doubt about it. Paul has always been a huge Mac loyalist. Coupled this with the fact that he never got to the inside of the new regime. He makes some valid points but he clearly is grinding an axe that is motivated by his own inability to develop any relationship with ISU football and athletics in general once Mac was ousted. Paul Clarke is also kinda a weenie if you ever have met the dude. A wimp for sure. (insert crybaby smilie here)

And......what is the point of a message board if no one can post on it?

Re: Paul Clark lets Loose!

As far as Cyclone Report, you can post on it, if you have a subscription. If you do not feel you want to subscribe and want to be on a free site like CF that is fine, to each their own.

A poster yesterday attacked Paul personally, then defended his attack by saying he had been a player. In response:
1. Thanks for being a member of the team and making that commitment, that deserves respect for your efforts and contributions.

2. However, what does that have to do with personally attacking someone and calling them derogatory terms? Nothing. Then when questioned, the same poster stated that the real problem was charging someone for ISU information that should be available free. Deal with the real issue, not a personal attack. Sorry, does not show character.

3. The paid subscription model exists for ESPN, Rivals, Scout, etc.. What are the benefits? You have a journalist who can talk to recruits, players and staff. You get information in advance and have a chance to see a lot of information.

If this is something someone likes great, but if not, that is fine as well cause you will see it at some point (at least part of it). Again, that does not mean someone should subscribe or not subscribe, it depends on what you want.

Personally, I subscribe to both Aggie and ISU so I have information from professional sources.

But if you choose not do so, it is no different than not sitting on the 40 yard line without making the donation.

Paul does a good job, and this site is great as well. No need to attack anyone.

That is what character is about.

What's Wrong with McCarney???

Yes, I know people have talked about this before, but I want a straight answer, no "he's terrible, we don't need him" BS. I have yet to see a VALID argument for not going after Dan McCarney. Whether you like it or not, he led us to the best 6 year stretch in this program's history.

In case you have forgotten, let me refresh your memory...

We have been to 9 bowl games, 5 of them under McCarney. He also led the Cyclones to 3 straight bowl games, first time in school history. Speaking of school history, he won a school record 9 games in 2000.

With the history of our program, one 4-8 season should not have been enough to fire him. I say bring him back and let him turn things around.

Re: What's Wrong with McCarney???

There is nothing wrong with Mac when he has good assistants. You could expect a bowl about once out of every 3 years. I guess that sounds good right now but it didn't 3 years ago.

Re: What's Wrong with McCarney???

The Big XII is a bigger and meaner animal than it was 5 years ago. He can't recruit the athletes needed to compete. End of story.

Re: What's Wrong with McCarney???

I loved Mac when he was here, but I just don't see how he could be brought back, or that he would want to come. There would always be a significant portion of the fan base who wouldn't support him, and the football team needs 100% support.

Re: What's Wrong with McCarney???

Some people would be fine around here if he came back. I don't think he is going to come work for the person who fired him before. Also, why would he leave Florida when they are headed to the national championship?

Re: What's Wrong with McCarney???

If we had a different AD I think he could easily come back. With JP here, I can't see it happening. We could do worse than Dan McCarney. See Gene Chizik.

Re: What's Wrong with McCarney???

Whats wrong with Mac? Probably the same thing that was wrong with him just a couple years ago. Everyone is thankful for what he did for ISU, but ISU can and WILL do better!
