Yes I know that every fan base has bad fans. And yes I know that not all Hawkeye fans are bad fans. I'm just wondering if a majority of Cyclone fans have had bad fan encounters with Iowa fans?

Every damn day. Typically a gigantic lifted pickup truck driven by a maniac, adorned with the parakeet logos on them. I try to get in front of them and slow them down, force them to change lanes to get around me and then I speed up. Gotta keep them in line if possible.

If you want clarification, I would say this goes beyond gentle rivalry stuff like talking a little smack depending on who won the most recent rivalry game. This is full on dbag stuff.

Items on my personal list of interactions include:
Batteries, beer cans, etc. being thrown by Hawk fans at the ISUCF'V'MB, while I was in the band.
Belligerent Hawk fans at tailgates and games.
DBag activity from coworkers and acquaintances. Luckily I haven't had any real friends turn out to be Hawk douches.

There are more but these are some key categories

I've had multiple, but it's been a long time. Probably had more to do with being in my 20's than anything.

Yeah, but it still happened. I know some of it can be because of a Cyclone's interaction with them, but generally real "BAD" fans are just looking for an excuse.

Too many times to count or mention. Grew up in NE Iowa, now live right on the Eastern border. At least there are enough Badger fans in Dubuque to kind of form a buffer, but still way too much Hawk here for my taste. Growing up it was literally me and one other kid in my ENTIRE SCHOOL, middle school-high school that were Cyclone fans. It was almost a daily ritual for us to be harassed, belittled, or berated for our loyalties. Even to this day in Dubuque, if I venture out wearing anything Cyclones I am vulnerable to attack. Wearing my ISU covid mask earlier in the pandemic at a grocery store, an elderly Hawk fan approached me and told me to hand him my mask, because they were out of "ass wipe" in the john. I am so used to it by now, that it doesn't even phase me anymore.

There is strong correlation between the dooshcanoe hawk fans I know that say stupid things and the fact that they didn't actually attend EIU. Those that actually went there, in many cases, are not as insufferable as the Kirkwood alums and tavern hawks.

I was in middle school for the stretch of ISU winning 5 straight in the Cy Hawks series. I may have brought it upon myself, but I made a lot of enemies for rubbing it in. Then in high school after Iowa had broke the losing streak, anytime after that when ISU won I was made to feel like I should apologize for it, because it was literally me vs the entire school in terms of fandom. They couldn't even let me be happy about it.

Dodging full beer cans is a rite of passage for ISU fans going to IC, first time for me I was probably only 8 or 9 years old. Had a grown man with his wife and kids call me a "******* loser Cyclown kid" that same day, he didn't think we heard him. My dad and uncle were with me, my uncle went about 6'5 240, he spun around quick and asked the guy what he said, he mumbled something about kidding around and apologized out of fear. That was my first trip to IC and cemented my hatred of the Hawks.

The guy just looked like one of those entitled, fat, suburban, my **** don't stink Hawk fans. He's been the stereotype for me every since.

I feel like a lot of Iowa fans, statewide, got worse after we won 5 straight.

They were a different kind of condescending insufferable during the big 15 game streak. Then they turned outright mean when we started beating them.

Now many have retained that ahole nature and are complete jerks about winning a few straight, even if the games are close or there were specific circumstances that made the game turn, officiating or otherwise.

Holy **** that's terrible. Why would you do that to a little kid. Adults can take it and it's at least somewhat understandable with the rivalry, but kids?!?!

I am probably in the minority, but growing up in the Chicago suburbs, then spending roughly 8 years in Ames for school and work, I have only befriended one hawk fan, and he went to Simpson. So I haven't really been around of hawk fans. Of course, I have been annoyed by fans during games in Ames, but wouldn't say they were bad interactions.

And I honestly feel like Iowa's worst is worse than a lot of bad fanbases in college football. There's a particular sense of condescension, particularly toward ISU fans, that I don't think you see as much between say Bama and Auburn fans.

I think Iowa winning 15 in a row is a big reason for this. They got spoiled because ISUs AD was just ******* terrible for so long. They got a superiority complex that eclipses their actual status in college football. Bama fans have a bit more right to be entitled. tOSU fans know that they own the B1G. Stuff like that.
Iowa has been a very good but not exceptional program since Fry got it rolling. Not really title contenders, but respected. Their fans take it to a different level though because they owned the state for so long.

At a high school football game 2 years ago...I was having a conversation with another guy on our sideline about the ISU/Iowa football game... when a younger Iowa grad inserted himself into our conversation..yelling "Purdy sucks and Iowa should have won by 30 points!" All of us there were fans of the same HS team. He just couldn't restrain himself I guess.
