Cy-Hawk Game This Year: Revenge or Just Shutting Up Their Idiot Fans?

uh we don't have an option, we play a round robin schedule. And despite Texas sucking the last decade, they still have far more talent than we do and OU is always at the top of the Big 12 and has made the playoffs numerous times. Iowa is our non con P5 opponent and we play a pretty tough schedule in conference play.

We also haven't been able to get by playing 8 conference games for quite some time. That limits options for non-con scheduling.

This will be the biggest game in series history. So many factors at play:

No game last season. Full crowds returning. Both teams top 15. Iowa State's best chance of a CFP berth. Iowa the spoiler in a reversal of typical roles. Iowa State will be favored.

The pressure is on Iowa State and that scares me. Obviously we have enough firepower to win, especially at home, but Iowa is a good program and will have a good team. I suspect we'll have a Heacock special waiting for Petras. It will be his first game in front of a crowd, and it's against a confusing and atypical defense.
The run game is going to have to be ready to go for us. Something that will help us is already playing a very good opponent. IU is going to be borderline top 10 heading into the season, so the team is getting thrown in the fire early.

It depends on how you look at it.
The rivalry with the most hatred and bad blood? Definitely ISU.
The most important one? Wisconsin.
The most annoying? Minnesota.
The stupidest one? Nebraska.

And the one people care about the most is the one with the most hatred and bad blood. Hence the biggest rival.

We can say that our game with Oklahoma is more important, or KSU because it's a conference rivalry, but Iowa is our biggest rival.

Yep, that’s exactly what I’m saying. Our conference rivals mean more, due to how it can impact postseason play. However the one that gets a whole state ready to rip each other’s heads off is the bigger rivalry.

Ah, I concur. I thought you were doubling down on what Thinker was trolling at

Does Indy have their good QB back from last year?

I know it was said a few pages ago but basically how you beat Iowa is by not making any mistakes. If our special teams can clean up their game, don't throw any picks, and no fumbles, we definitely have a chance to win. The thing about Iowa is that they don't make mistakes. It's pretty rare for them. Would love to see us force some turnovers.

Simply put

We don't beat Iowa in sports anymore. Be nice to right the ship starting this year across the major sports, but until I see it, I'll be pessimistic.

When was last time ISU beat Iowa in anything of note? Hoops, FB, Wrestling, Seems like its been a while.

the one this past year that I still scratch my head about is the wbb game....I mean we had like a 17 point lead in the last quarter and just completely collapsed. It felt like the UNI/A&M comeback

Iowa gets more traffic from opposing fans on message boards than ISU does. Iowa gets posters from all over the big ten usually.
1. I can’t believe I have to say this again, but you currently on an ISU message board as an Iowa fan saying this statement is hilariously ironic. Lol

2. Iowa State Football, like Iowa State Basketball a few years back, is starting to get a target painted on their back from opposing Big 12 fan bases. We used to be the little under dog that people would root for out of pity. We’re liked far less as of late.

So they should be decent. They aren’t top ten. Didn’t they lose their bowl game to a team with a losing record? Handled pretty well also, IIRC.
Penix was the X-factor for them. IU returns the Big 10 WR of the year, a very good defense, one of the best TE’s in the Big 10, and obviously Penix. Their only real big question mark is their OL.

We win two years ago if we make 1 interception late in the game and Stanley gave us 2 opportunities. Guys just didn’t make plays. We’re a ton better defensively (especially in the secondary) and Petras may be worse than Stanley is accuracy and decision making wise. I think we have at least 1 INT.

the thing about Iowa though and running teams in general, is that they tend to make less mistakes because their run game is the main part of their offense. You can erase the potential of turnovers if you're just running the ball. And ironically, we're now playing a pretty similar style to Iowa with our running game and use of TE's. I honestly think our OL can finally stand up to Iowa's DL. If Breece has a big day, it could be trouble for the Hawkws.

I'm happy he focuses on conference opponents

So when ISU finally wins a game against IA, is that because IA is terrible or because MC started focusing on this game more? It is going to be hard for ISU to keep competing for the NC every year if they keep losing to Iowa in week 2. But, maybe you are right and MC is just looking for his 2nd consecutive regular season B12 title. Such an achievement nobody thought possible.

I don't think Iowa has to be terrible for Iowa State to win. Iowa State just has to be a lot better than Iowa for it to happen
