Just like any sales job (which recruiting is) you're better off at times asking for the no rather than getting strung along because they don't have the heart to tell you no.

SEP is an extremely pro Hok environment and it's possible X didn't eliminate Iowa because he didn't want to damage relationships he's built at his own school in Pleasant Hill.

It is odd at least from ISU perspective.

I can understand hoks being invested in him still though - they have built their house of cards on 2nd places and 'if only' so this will be a big win for them even though he isn't going to Iowa.
