Ok, Mediacom has pissed me off for the last time. Absolute crooks over there. Tell you a price for 12 months and just change it when they like. Internet is garbage as well. So i'm going to my local provider that has MUCH better internet. So now the big question....

Sling or you tube tv?

I did a trial of you tube tv a year or so ago and thought it was ok. REALLY like the unlimted dvr option. Having the entire Seinfeld series on my tivo is awsome, would miss that.

Let me know what's best CF! I'm nervous to change!

I disliked Sling, a lot. I got both packages (blue & orange), and there's repeat between them, so scrolling through the channel guide was painfully slow. Maybe you can hide channels now and/or reorder them, but I don't think you could then.

Switched to YouTube TV and still have it. Love the unlimited DVR and I reordered my channel lineup so that all the good stuff is up top.

Sling is like the AOL of streaming at this point. You’re too 2 options should be Hulu Live and YTTV. I’ve had both and liked both. Current YTTV subscriber.

How do people have so many problems with mediacom? I was paying for 200 and always got 250, and they upgraded my speed for free to 300, and I get about 360 now, and my price has been 99 dollars for the last 3 years. I'm south of Merle Hay, so it isn't exactly a new neighborhood and new lines.

I got Sling because of the price. I like it; not as many channels as the others, but that's the reason why its less.

We moved from Mediacom Cable/Mediacom Internet to Mediacom Internet/YTTV and have nearly zero complaints. The picture is better with YTTV than Mediacom. I will say that the audio on YTTV is the one weak spot if you have an audio system.

I think it depends on where you live, and whether you have a lot of people around who use a ton of bandwidth. My brother in law lives in Urbandale (far west) and always struggles with Mediacom speed.

I use Sling Blue in the summer because its cheaper and I don’t need all the sports channels. I switch to YTTV once CFB starts. In general, YTTV is much better than Sling, except the price.

Sling is the least technically reliable streaming service I have used. The on demand content was somehow even less reliable and worse buffering than the live content.

It was 4 years ago and 3 years ago that I tried it several times, so maybe it has improved. But it just was not worth it to me. Watching live sports or a series finale of a favorite show would enrage me with the stream freezing or the entire app/website just locking up. YoutubeTV is significantly more expensive but with the exact same internet setup and devices I had zero problems. I've also never had problems with Netflix, Hulu, D+ or HBO streaming. Minor problems with Amazon Prime and Crackle but nothing like the Sling issues that I could only describe as a broken service.

This. Hulu Live and YTTV are the only choices right now.

I went with YTTV because they had every channel that my wife and I wanted, which made it an easy choice. That being said, I have been extremely happy with it and don't see myself going back to cable ever again.

I just wish Hulu and YTTV didn't raise their prices every year

I was really hopping that these companies would realize that the goal of Sling, YTTV, HULU, etc., would have been more limited packages so that people could choose a package with a small amount of channels. Basically what we have now are a lot of the popular channels, but that most people still don't watch a lot of.

For example, I would gladly pay $40/month if I could get ESPN, ESPN2, FS1 and FS2. That seems more profitable than adding in all the Disney channels just to get the ESPN channels.

A big bummer for me is locals. I live in SE Iowa but we get the Des Moines stations. I like watchign WHO news when I get home or while cooking supper.

YTTV gives you locals but where I live I'd get Missouri locals...that def ain't it. I'll really miss my WHO news. It's really the thing holding me back all this time. And over the air HD antanas...not sure work this far from the station.

Does WHO stream their newscasts on the NewsON app? You could download that app and stream it thru that (if this site offers WHO).

Actually looks like that site/app only streams KCCI and WOI out of Des Moines. By the way, if people ever have a need to watch a local news broadcast from a different region...the following site/app is great!
