Iowa Football Recruiting

I would honestly rank both Heacock and Parker as top 20 DC’s, but Phil is better. The stats show it.
The stats? Running a boring tired old vanilla cover 2 out of a 4-3 against the big ten west about as far from local talent as you can get. Iowa is a training wheels program in every way, from scheduling to scheme, especially on D. At least Brian F tries to run some empty sets, albeit still primarily running safe stick and option routes. Heacock is an innovator and trend setter against teams in a part of the country where top talent can take visits and be back by supper time. He's basically single handedly reined in the most prolific offensive conference in CFB.

Do you even know what you’re saying? Because it sounds like you don’t watch football. Just because Heacock runs a bunch of different sets, doesn’t make him better. Phil is better at developing talent, and he’s one of the best in the country at developing DB’s. Heacock is good, but he isn’t better than Phil.

Lol Doyle isn't here anymore STC

We should revisit this question the second Saturday evening in September.

Iowa fans "Phil Parker is so great!"

Also Iowa fans "I would rather have a special teams coach take over for Kirk than Phil Parker"

Yeah, let's see how that defense develops over the next 2-4 years without Doyle to "train" the players. Again, maybe not highly visible this year, but just wait...

Imagine bragging about having a good defense in the big 10 west. The conference is a joke. Northwestern got last place and sucked in 19-20. Then proceeded to curb stomp the rest of the big 10 west the next year for a first place finish. The big 12 is far superior. It’s like comparing apples to oranges.

The big 12 was better...last season.

B1G West really isn't very good, out side of Wisky and NW. Kinda reminds me of the Mountainwest conf.

Do you know the difference between a 5 tech and a 3 tech. Between a head up nose and a weakside A-gap 3 tech. Playing Dline at ISU is far more demanding, asked to stand up their blocker with power, control two gaps, and must shed to fill on either side. Iowa is a 3 tech single gap, asked to maintain gap side leverage on only one side. Rarely they have a nixon or Mike Jones who actually has talent and they can shoot that gap to disrupt.

The star position is asked to do everything on the field from run fits in the box to bailing to deep centerfield. ISU baits with their base cloud and then disguises with rolls and replacements. They run the corner blitz and delayed blitzes all 5 DB spots. Iowa's corners are asked to sit on the short to intermediate routes and run with deep routes knowing they always have help over the top. Iowa's safeties play a glorified tip drill and simply have to rake in easy tips and drops from the hook curl and seam zone in the middle and play robber on the outside with help underneath and rake in overthrows when they undoubtedly occur in the big ten west.

It's Shameless. I would certainly be ashamed to run that trash for 20 years.
