Head Coach

Question is, If he doesn't end up leaving, how are Iowa State people going to think of him?

We need to start looking at the big picture here. It's the A.D.; stupid! Jamie Pollard has taken incredible risks with the ISU athletic program and the wheels seem to be coming off at an alarming rate. It is not much fun listening to ESPN talking heads express disbelief at the decision to fire Coach Mac. I do not blame the coaches for any of this. Pollard is the guy who is driving this bus. He and no one else is responsible for the timing of decisions and the direction of the athletic programs. Pollard has switched drivers as we approached the interstate because of cloudy conditions. We are now on a dirt road and the snow is becoming increasingly heavy. We are changing coaches, uniforms, "icons" so fast we have lost our direction and identity. We might want to think of replacing Pollard before worrying about replacing coaches.

So we should have hired a low profile coach that other programs wouldn't want?

Possibly. I'm pretty sure there are a lot of low profile coaches that could have won 5 games in 2 years and wouldn't require a million a year.

He was doing his job when he fired Mac. Bigger donors then seem to have a little more leverage and they were sick of almost there but cant get over the hump. I am still extremely happy with Pollard, i would say he is doing his job bringing in good coaches, i mean heck look at his record here and a school like AU is still calling.

Loney. For the very reason he is not high profile and will be loyal. Put the money in great coordinators and the best recruiters. Its time for Jamie to go he has done too much damage and pissed off to many. If Gene returns next year so be it; I buy season tickets to see a game not a coach. It doesn't matter who is at the helm, just win!

What really has Pollard done wrong? He fired Mac and WM, both of whom NEEDED to be fired. I don't blame him one bit for that. He had two hires who everyone applauded. In fact, Auburn is after our FB coach...Mac in his best years was chased by teams like Baylor and Northern Illinois. Pollard also increased the budget, helped set season ticket records in FB and MBB, signed Fennely to a lifetime contract, and kept a wrestling legend at ISU (which previous ADs didn't do). He also has made more facilities progress in the last four years than the previous 20 combined. Yeah...I think that he's the problem.

If Chizik leaves, I would knock down the door of Glenn Mason. He won at KU and won at Minnesota. He knows what to do with programs like ISU.

I watched Mason his last few years here in Minnesota, he was basically the equivalent of McCarney. He took Minnesota from terrible to OK, with several trips to low-end bowl games. Mason rarely beat any of the top Big Ten teams, and usually had several terrible losses every year. I believe one year they gave up 28 points to Michigan in the 4th quarter. Mason was also not well liked by most of the fans and the media. I would much rather ISU take a flyer on an up and coming coach than go after Mason. My 2 cents.

Maybe just fold the football program, we all would save thousands in donations and ticket sales - stop heavy drinking from all the losing and probably become better people.

I agree. I really don't want Mason if indeed we are looking for a coach.
