The Fran fade

This guy gets it...and yet he doesn't. Fran isn't going to change...he is in his 12th year and the transfer portal isn't his thing. What he doesn't get is that recruiting in basketball has changed...you now must use the transfer portal if you want to remain competitive...and you must be able to integrate disparate parts into a cohesive team...every year.

Fran got lucky the past couple of years with Garza...without Garza they don't even sniff the dance. And yet, let's sign Fran for a 6 year contract...

Uthoff, Jok, and Weezy all fell into his lap too. Fran's hits on the recruiting trail include Garza and Cook. Garza had to leave Iowa City to work on his game and Cook was such a wasted talent in Iowa City, Fran didn't know how to use him. Lets get serious, Fran has caught some serious breaks while in Iowa City.

Right now Iowa is down to 2 top 150 players on the roster by 247 composite. 1 of those 2 has the same last name as the head coach.

Their average player composite rating is 248.

Don’t they all need surgery? Maybe some Nerdluck Space Jam talent procedure will help.

That is brutal!

This just reinforces my opinion that Weezy is gone. They are going to be terrible next year and I really don't think his draft stock gets any higher. With that being said, never underestimate the Hawkeye desire to play basketball with their super neat best friends.

I love Frans face in that picture. He can’t believe how good of a contract he got.
Fran’s youngest is in 8th grade. This extension ensures that he’ll get to play for dad too. I think there’s a decent chance they don’t make the dance more than once or twice during the rest of Fran’s tenure, and maybe never. A find like Garza won’t gappen again, nor is it likely that another kid of Wiescamp’s caliber emerges in their backyard. And now Gary is off the hook for a men’s bball hire and a football hire for the rest of his own tenure, which is 90% of an AD’s job. Do those two things well and the rest is easy.

I’d love to know how that compares to all the other P6’s.

Yeah, but some of those players may have 7-8 years of Fran development. Man, I can't even type that without laughing.

Iowa players transfer and end up at major conference programs (Xavier, Virginia Tech, Kentucky).

ISU guys transfer and end up at places like South Alabama, UNLV, Southern Utah or Iowa Western.
What a strange little-brotherish thing to pound your chest about. IMO transferring down a level for a better opportunity is beneficial for a lot of players and the fact that Iowa's recent transfers have transferred laterally is more indicative of a systemic culture issue. Pemsl transferred to Va Tech and moved halfway across the country to, what, produce just as poorly for the Hokies as he did for the Hawks? Something doesn't smell right about that to me.

Should I know who this is?

If he comes back, I can’t wait for the heckling from Cyclone Alley. Is he hanging on to an possible NBA career. I can see his reasoning. “Something left a bad taste in my mouth after the Oregon game. I am much better than that and can’t leave when I put a zero in the scoring column. I plan to come back and and get as many Iowa basketball records as I can, to cement my place in Iowa basketball folklore so they can retire my jersey like they did Luka’s.”
I for one, would embrace Jorbo coming back for another year. Another year of him acting a fool and putting up terrible box score numbers (especially vs us the last couple years) would do a solid for my in-state rivalry fuel

If he comes back to Hilton and loses I kind of want every ISU player to take their shoes off and leave them on the court.
Yeah, I'm like Peppermint Petty

Best not to, bobo will take them and try to sell them when they are in the NBA. His NIL may get him a slider at white castle, whereas ISU players will be worth something when they are in the pros.
