Caleb Grill is Returning to Iowa State

He was a guy that came to Ames with all the tools to help ISU, but for some reason just could not make a shot his freshman year, despite being a gunner in HS. Sounds like he got his shot back at UNLV, and a lot of experiences too. Glad to have him back. Loved he hustle he had. Something we didn't see enough of the last 2 years.

His hs and aau highlights were impressive even for lower level. Not just shooting but as an athletic fast break player.

The thing about Grill when he came in was he was a multi sport star in H.S. and just started to focus full time on bball. His skill development was behind others, but the effort and athleticism was clear. He was forced into early min, got hurt...we know the story. If you watched UNLV this year, he clearly looked like a more well rounded basketball player, played well in the offense and the ball didn’t stick when he got it. He had games where 3’s were raining in and games where they weren’t. If he makes a jump like from his freshman to soph year, he’s going to contribute quite a bit.

Fire it up boys.

You heard the man, fire it up!

I believe that since he’s transferring back to his original school, he is not required to sit out a year.
That is the word.

Welcome back to CycloNATION Caleb, was sorry to see you leave the last year. Always thought Caleb flashed the potential as B12 player just needed some development. Getting minutes for TJ at UNLV to gain confidence, knowing the system and familiarity with Hilton should set him up to be ready for a role right away.

Plus, I am sure his Parents will be happy to get to eat at Hickory Park again (and save money on flights to Vegas too).

Three public announcements in one day.

Seems like they might be creating a little momentum to help somebody else close to a decision choose to take the plunge...

Maybe we aren't done in the near term.

I was really excited when he came the ISU because he looked like Matt Thomas 2.0. As I recall he made 2 of his first 3 3 pointers and then missed the next 20 or so crazy. It wasn't like they were all bricks, he just was a little off every time.

I’m pretty sure this year they are going to pass the one time transfer rule without sitting out. Last year everyone got one because of Covid, which could be the case again this year anyway.
But I’m also pretty sure if you transfer back to a school you previously attended, you don’t have to sit out anyways. Which obviously isn’t very common. I think the circumstance with following his coach and being at the school he previously transferred from anyways would get a waiver.

Nice to have him back. I'm with JStanz (per his article) - nice rotation guy off the bench.
