I'll admit I don't follow b-ball quite as close as I used to but from what I can tell these are very similar b-ball teams and rivals to boot. How can Iowa be favored by 8.5???

We led Drake by 10 with 8 minutes left @home and lost. It's really quite simple...

no, we beat UNI in OT and Iowa thumped them and have home court advantage. Seems about right to me and I would not be entirely shocked to see them cover it either if we play anything like we have on the road for the past few seasons.

For gambling purposes it seems about right. As an Iowa fan that really likes to watch basketball from both schools, the game is a tossup. It all depends on whose stroke is on.

It is a misunderstood fact that betting lines aren't actually predictions of the game, but just a line to encourage more betting which means more and more $$$ for Vegas.

Chad,

I am surprised you don't have 20 useless stats to show why they are an 8.5 point favorite. I don't know how to respond to one of your posts that doesn't use stats from past years to make a point on this year.

Like Jess Settles averaged 16.4 points a game at Carver during his 10 year Hawkeye career. Therefore Iowa is an 8.5 point favorite

Believe me when I say I don't anymore believe in the institution of gambling. However, call it a hobby of mine to follow football lines and I certainly understand their purpose. What I don't see is a 8.5 spread. Again I don't follow b-ball anymore like f-ball (where I can typically spot a hokey line a mile away) but I'd have guessed this at about 5.5 to 6 Iowa and 2 to 3 points diff is significant.

Iowa probably gets 4 points or so for being at home. The other points are because Iowa is better.

Agreed. 4.5 points for being at home. The other points (in this case 4) is for being slightly better. If this game was at Hilton , this game would probably be a pick'em.

As far as actual predictions go: If you analyze both teams, Iowa winning by 10 or 11 wouldn't shock me.

I guess something that some of our fans aren't realizing is with the youth we have, we are more like a mid major team. Doesn't mean we don't have potential or that we can't improve.

Something you have to look at overall is how we've played on the road. We beat UNI but it was close. We will have to be an improved team from the Drake game and from the UNI game to beat Iowa at their place.

It's possible, but I hope our guys worked really hard the past couple of days...

That kind of hurts friend, but I'm not taking too much offense considering that it's common place for an ISU fan to reference the past. The amazing thing is that often times people make sweeping generalizations on here without one single point of reference to attain said point of view. Now here comes the irony, too refute said folly a person has to access facts which..............ironically enough all happen in the past!?!?!?

An even more ironic happening is you jumping in this thread taking it completely of course with a bit of "smack" laced agenda.

Who cares (ooops, I know Miller does) . . . this should will be a blow out by Iowa . . . heck, every other game has gone Iowa's way. . . why not this one?

Besides, I have more important things to do tonight . . like watching Family Guy.

P.S. I wonder if Miller will be sitting by "Kirk" tonight. LOL

Chad,

I am giving you a hard time. Don't you remember getting in it with me in regards to the Big 12 QB's? You brought up all these statistics and made claims that Big 10 QB's would be better QB's in the NFL b/c they had in the past. I was referencing that. Nothing more than a friendly jab man

By the way, what was my point of view on my previous post? Your post didn't make a lot of sense other than to show that your feeling were hurt. For that I apologize

It is a bit hard to smack talk when many feel we get an L tonight. I'll be watching the game and cheering on my Clones and I hope for a victory.

Someone once said that hope is not a strategy. That may be all I have, though, for tonight.

Why do so many people think we will get an L? I don't get that. Iowa is very very well coached, but they are the least talented team I have ever seen from the Hawks.

This is a game we should win. If we don't, it is b/c we are Iowa State and we don't know how to win!!

I'm not certain in either direction. I just think it is probable we lose tonight -- just like the odds indicate.

No you are right I was being a baby, and I do remember the previous thread. In fact I remember thinking well of you. As for what I said about agenda’s I meant in this thread and taking it off topic. I think that’s what you are asking about right?

I do incidentally think you are generalizing on my claims. I don’t think anyone other than Purdue’s guy can play in the NFL. My point was I don’t think ALL 8 Big 12 guys will make Pro’s as history suggests. In fact the scouts are not high on Harrell or Daniels at all.
