John Dewan's Stat of the week lists the fastest and slowest pitchers in MLB, averaged over the course of the year. Pretty interesting

Yay! I can throw harder than 10 of the pitchers in the majors

An average of almost 97 per fastball is gggggaaaassss

I thought this was a thread about taking time between pitches, not actual pitch speed.

I was all ready to come in here ranting about the A's pitchers...

How nasty must your stuff be to top our your fastball in the low 80's and be good in MLB?

wow

I would LOVE to catch a bullpen for Zito, Maddux, Glavine, Moyer

The one I will never understand is Moyer. He doesn't have any movement on the ball and really doesn't have that great of command, but still gets outs...

I read a story about Maddox pitching with his eyes closed....he missed the glove on the first try, but got it on the second. Amazing.

No mention of Farnsworth?

It still boggles my mind how some of these guys, especially the slightly built ones, throw so fast. I was never a baseball player but cranking it up to 60 at sec taylor always hurt like hell afterward. 95+ all the time? wow

I can vouch for the success of slow if applied correctly. My tennis game was based upon that theory

but when a slow pitcher was on the mound, everyone, including me would be way to antsy to hit and couldn't get very good contact on the ball
Slow pitchers and guys who threw hard and had a decent hook as offspeed: If I had a dollar for each of those home run balls I pulled foul down the third base line. I loved guys that just threw gas because in general, it was straight as an arrow if you could catch up to it (I was guilty of the 'straight as an arrow' at 87...gave up a b-o-m-b on one about chin high...still wondering how the guy hit it )

Most of those guys are pretty big dudes. Brian Wilson is probably the 'smallest' of the bunch and that dude is ripped. He is also the only one that I would call a 'max effort' pitcher. Alot of those guys make it look pretty effortless...

I'm always amazed by still shots of pitchers , especially at the major league level, and the contortions they put their arms through. It makes my arm hurt just looking at them.
