Old Mediocre Has-Been Desperate To Appear Relevant; aka JBo To Return

I have not done much research but I think the NIL is a massive can or worms that can be abused 10,000 different ways. All a booster has to say that some player(s) entertained his kids bday party or taught them how to throw a pass and then pay them $1000. Or, offer a recruit $100,000 to make a commercial for a local business when he makes the roster.

I know it already happens but making it legal will it be rampant as some schools. I know a kid that was a greyshirt on the IA football team about 10 years ago. A booster who owned a furniture store in IA city gave him an apartment above the store rent free and said it was in exchange for being "night security".

Schools like Auburn, LSU and Texas will be even more insane if there is not some controls in place.

One thing I haven't heard much on (maybe due to hibernation), is the image improvement 'while' in college. Iowa State's most successful teams aren't more due to an excellent player, but as pointed out in the Baylor article earlier this week, the duration the player remains in the program and/or extended experience they acquire. So, what happens to that unknown (eg Tyrese) who absolutely blows up after Freshman year? Would there be an insurance policy to cover that fame acquired? Or, the opposite, a fiver star which just doesn't pan out? Is the open transfer market now even more viable due to these scenarios? The system needs to be looked at as a whole (ie all academic sports). The NBA and NFL should be held to the same court control seemingly being delegated at the collegiate level. Haven't some players already taken the NFL to court over their preventative measures (I seem to recall an Ohio State running back who got in trouble for something off the field taking the NFL to court)? As courts are 'ruling' entities, what laws have been broken?

If Bohannon wants to profit off his likeness, there are multiple fanbases that would pay good money if someone made custom molds of his douchey smug face to add to Century Bob Torso training bags. It’s the only way Bohannon is making a buck on his name and likeness. Sorry bud.

Where can I get one? I'll set it up at my tailgate this fall. Punch Jay Bowe, get a shot of Fireball!

I don’t really get why NIL would get him to come back. He is able to profit off of his image right now, start charging for those autographs and pulling in those endorsements.

The other thing is even if this passes, the universities are under no obligation to let their logos and copyrights be used. I can’t imagine the UofI would let him show up in an endorsement in his jersey without taking their cut.

Someone mentioned this above, but once he leaves he loses the Hawkeye image and becomes his own entity.

I don’t get why he’d be able to use it even if he does come back. The university could let him, but just because he (or anyone) is enrolled doesn’t give him the ability to endorse something as a member of the Hawkeye basketball team.

Not anything unique to Bohannon or Iowa
