Kyle Green Hired

Good morning, Coach Green.

Despite the utter sh*t show this thread is, Cyclone Nation does in fact welcome you, understands the complexities of transitioning to a high profile job with a grown family professionally rooted in another city, doesn’t give two sh*ts how you manage your family life, is excited to have your basketball IQ help develop some talent in Ames, and is looking forward to the fresh tone you and Otz’s staff can bring to Cyclone basketball.

Kick some ass in the Sukup and on the recruiting trail this summer, and we’ll see you in Hilton in November.

Maybe kyle green is the next head coach I waiting at UNI and knows it so that why he isn’t moving his family to Ames
Very well could be a future candidate for the job. I think if Ben would have got the Minny job you would have seen Green get promoted.

I think it has more to do with his wife having her own business in CF and both of their kids are athletes at UNI.

So instead of his wife making a huge decision in relocating her entire business and their kids making huge decisions in transferring universities, Coach Green will have an apartment / condo in Ames where he’ll be at the majority of the time, while always having the ability to drive the short (albeit boring) 1 hour and 28 minutes to CF.

That’s Twins’ mo. Whoever we got was going to be amazing. Same with transfers.
I'm not happy we kept Robinson. He's dead weight IMO. I think Green was a huge hire. I like our third assistant and think he'll be a good recruiter but Green is by far our best assistant

As for transfers Kunc is just OK. Advanced statistics like him but he's nothing special. I don't think I have to explain my thoughts on Grill.

Does that fit my "MO"?

I don't know why this is hard to understand. Coaching jobs, especially assistant ones, are transient by nature. There were people ready to fire TJ the minute he was hired and probably wanted Pollard to get the axe too. There are no guarantees here. Suddenly everyone expects them to move the entire family and set roots for a job that he may be fired from in 3 years through no fault of his own. Perhaps the ability to commute is one of the reasons this job is appealing to him.

The things people get hung up on around here are weird.

I've heard the "coach in waiting" thing several times now. If that's the case, what's the point in taking this job? I guess I don't get that rationale.

So do we think AJs decision is made?

I still feel there is a chance based off who we bring in and who UNI may potentially lose with his dad leaving.

I get he may think he is the “missing” piece at UNI but that could change for both teams quickly.

I would think with your dad moving and the increase in competition and exposure in the big 12 you need to give a hard look.

Halliburton is a perfect example IMO - crappy team but got exposure in better league and was a lottery pick. Just my opinion but I think AJ would greatly improve his draft stock in the big 12

USC hired Eric Mobley as assistant in 2018 and his two five-star sons follow in 2019 and 2020.

Oklahoma State hires Cannen Cunningham and soon follows his blue chip brother.

McDermott leaves for Creighton and his son follows and ends up being one of the most accomplished collegiate players ever.

I could go on and on...

Iowa State hires a coach and his son was the Larry Bird player of the year as a true sophomore and he is...STAYING at UNI. Seems about right. I respect AJ for the decision he made and even moreso Kyle for not pressuring his son into leaving a school he clearly loves but I mean gosh DAMN can we catch a break for once?

I get the "we are so unlucky" bs but come on.

1) We literally hired McDermott and Doug committed elsewhere
2) McDermott fleeing this dumpster fire allowed us to get Hoiberg and have some awesome years of Cyclone Basketball and we didnt even need to fire/pay anyone.

Is Jake really trying to get out of there?

Seems like the window was about 5 years ago if so.

Wisconsin would be the intriguing one. I think Gard is pretty safe for the time being, but they've been pretty marginal since he got there. I can see fans getting a bit inpatient, and Jake would be a perfect fit there.

I don't necessarily agree about the coach in waiting label. However, it would make sense that if you were hoping to become a head coach, more experience, working under a different coach, in a different league, would strengthen your resume.

But, what's the draw right now?

They'd be eviscerated if they hired him.

The rationale for the Otzelberger move in assistant jobs when Hoiberg still here on this board was experience under different head coaches but I don’t know that this was something he said or just CF speculation

Can only go by AJ's word, and its sounds like he will 100% be a Panther. I think we can drop the hope or idea that in June it changes for some reason.
