Iowa Football Recruiting

The Washington Redskins famed "Hogs" OL didn't even average 290 lbs. Totally different game. Most players back then had to get jobs in the offseason. There was no year round training that takes place now.
Is Iowa's OL even going to average 290?

I’ll admit and say I was very ignorant to Nile and didn’t realize he did more than just run the ball. Lol the man did everything for Iowa.

I will ask though was he that great of a RB? Or was he more of a jack of all trades who also played RB? Like would he be deserving of “the best RB ever in Iowa” or would it be for him being a d-back, as he had 18 interceptions which is actually incredible given the time period and was a record held for 50 year?

Actually I think he was a jack of all trades. He led the team in passing, rushing and on defense led the team in interceptions (which is still a record to this day tied with Desmond King). He was also the place kicker and punter. He played in 402 consecutive minutes of football and accounted for 107 of Iowa's 130 points on the season.

I saw that stat and it’s unreal. Lol which is why I think if there was a hypothetical list, he’d HAVE to be on it but where to place him would be the issue.

Because I think in the argument of running backs and their accomplishments, Troy Davis having back to back 2000 yard seasons is worthy of being RB1.

That's what makes an all time team almost impossible for football. The game changes too much. Baseball is pretty much the exact same game as it was 100 years ago so that makes it easier for that sport.

Ehhhh. Idk lol. I think Babe Ruth would’ve quit the sport had he had a guy like Aroldis Chapman throwing 104 at his head.

You don't think Walter Johnson was throwing in the 90s?
Most guys were throwing in the low to mid 80s, some hit the 90’s. No one was throwing even close to the junk they were nowadays.

Who knows how good Babe would’ve been had he been born in our time, but he wouldn’t be able to touch some of the pitchers nowadays. That’s at least my opinion. I’m sure some may disagree with me.

The junk back then was from doctored baseballs which are now illegal. They also had a higher mound until the 60's which favored the pitchers. I think the Babe would have been just fine in todays game.

Guessing that's troll bait but if I'm fielding an all-time all Iowa team there's no way I'm taking Dwight over Lazard at WR.

If we are talking strictly WR numbers then I can make an argument for McNutt or Butler. Unlike Lazard, they did not play a full 4 years at WR and put up really good numbers.

Lazard (48 games): 241 receptions, 3360 yards, 26 TD, 13.9 yards per catch

McNutt (42 games): 170 receptions, 2861 yards, 28 TD, 16.8 yards per catch

Butler (34 games): 110 receptions, 2149 yards, 18 TD, 19.5 yards per catch

Lol on McNutt and didn't play four years at WR. He couldn't even see the field as a redshirt freshman

So the best WRs that played at each university all played recently? I find that hard to believe.

What about Quinn Early, Danon Hughes, Tracy Henderson, Lane Danielson. I recall all of those guys being really, really good for the era they played in.

I didn't say they were the best, I said an argument could be made for those guys.
