Bold statement, but not that impressive. ISU’s best TE ever is Kolar, and he doesn’t even crack top 5 at Iowa, and would barely be in the top 10.

Good god you are moron.

There is nothing more pathetic than hok trolls here that just make **** up. Any yes I am pissed off because I had to watch the complete bust of a TE named Noah Fant suck donkey dicks for my Broncos. I am sick hearing how great Iowa's TE's have been of late. To suggest Kolar wouldn't be Top 5 is ignorant. I would offer to revisit this post in a few years but who the hell know's how many names you will have gone through by then.

How is Fant a bust? He was named to the all rookie team, and he was having a good year last season until the injury bug got him.

Obviously you left Purdy off as a joke. Pretty tough to leave off someone who was a consensus All American RB as a true sophomore. Agree to disagree on TE but like I said Hockenson and Clark deserve to be in the conversation with Kolar at least
Purdy isn’t even 1b . That’d be Randy Duncan. We can reconsider if Pudy is an AA next season , heisman finalist , and/or Davey O’Brien award winner. Have no problem including Hall when listing multiple but if picking just one it’s obviously Kinnick.

Is this list about who’s actually better or who has better accomplishments? Because I’m sorry, Nile Kinnick is trash in comparison to nowadays backs. Like, he’s not impressive whatsoever. He had 106 carries, 374 yards, 3.5 ypc, and 5 TDs in his one year he played / won the Heisman.

For comparison, Jarrett Patterson (RB for Buffalo) had 409 yards and 8 TDs in a single game this year.

I think you just answered your own question. You can't compare players of different generations or eras simply by looking at numbers. I think the accomplishments/awards mean more and say a lot more about what the player did when measured against their peers. That makes trying to do "all-time" teams a pretty slippery slope. When somebody like Nile Kinnick was chosen as the best college football player in the nation you have to believe that given the changes to the game and strength and conditioning etc...... that he would have been a pretty special player in any era and his numbers would look totally different if he played today.

The Pittsburgh Steelers' offensive line on their 4 Super Bowl teams averaged 250lbs. They'd get plowed today. You can't compare players of different eras by common stats. College football was a completely different game 80 years ago.

I’ll admit and say I was very ignorant to Nile and didn’t realize he did more than just run the ball. Lol the man did everything for Iowa.

I will ask though was he that great of a RB? Or was he more of a jack of all trades who also played RB? Like would he be deserving of “the best RB ever in Iowa” or would it be for him being a d-back, as he had 18 interceptions which is actually incredible given the time period and was a record held for 50 year?

The Washington Redskins famed "Hogs" OL didn't even average 290 lbs. Totally different game. Most players back then had to get jobs in the offseason. There was no year round training that takes place now.

Shaun Beyer ran a faster 40 than Nile Kinnick
