The Fran fade

It is amazing to me the amount of Hawk fans on their sites who are trying to convince themselves that next years team will be fun and finish .500 in the BIG...

Iowa is literally losing 80% of its scoring and rebounding...The best player in program history and probably 2nd best player in the last 10 years(JW)..All time 3pt leader and assist leader..And they actually think that UHlis, Perkins, P Mac will make them competitive..

This years Iowa team would not have made the NCAA without Garza...They prob don't even finish .500 on the year without Garza..Their own media on numerous podcasts have said this.

The Ole "We are gonna be better defensively" equates to them being a bubble team next year. Aside from CJ, they literally have no one who has shown any consistency to shoot the 3 returning next year.

I don't think it has quite set in yet with Iowa fans just how important Garza was. Heck Jobo with all his flaws won numerous games for them.

When Iowa doesn't make the tourney next year.... every single Iowa fan will be questioning his lengthy extension..... AGAIN!! When will Barta ever learn?
I just don’t understand the thought process for extending someone like Fran. It’s not like you’re in danger of losing him to another program. What do you gain from locking in to a long term agreement there?

I think a lot of it was putting the horse in front of the cart, like they seemed to do a lot of this season. I believe this was their way of rewarding him for taking them to the final 4 before they advanced that far. It leads more credence to my theory they thought they were all but certain headed to the final 4, even with Gonzaga in their region.

But even if he got to the Final Four, is anyone really coming for Fran at this point in his career? There’s no reason to commit that long.

I wonder if they even considered that side of the coin. I totally agree, no reason to commit for that long, as you mentioned, at his age. To me, it comes across as more of a token of appreciation move than a lock him in move.

Totally agree. Only thing that could save them would be a couple stud transfers, but Fran has typically refused to go that route.

Maybe and if he does that then he must be very dissatisfied. It's one thing to leave for Kentucky its another to leave for Cincinnati. Not saying it won't happen
It's not really "one thing" like some big shock he'd rather play at historically better programs closer to where he grew up.

So you think Wieskamp has no chance of making a roster when Matt Thomas is on one?
Joes got some serious skills but I'm not sure it all translates to the NBA. Similar to Garza in that regard, but I do think Joe has a better shot. End of the day, he's a shorter version of Jared Uthoff. I'd be willing to bet he comes back for his senior year and help lead Iowa to the NIT.
