Iowa State has landed its first commitment of the T.J. Otzelberger era.

The Cyclones picked up a pledge from Washington State graduate transfer forward Aljaz Kunc on Wednesday, per a university release. This leaves Iowa State with three scholarships currently open pending any further roster attrition.

Kunc is a graduate transfer and will have two years to play.

“Jaz is a skilled frontline player, who has proven at the Power-5 level to have the ability to knock down threes and stretch opposing defenses,” Otzelberger said in the release. “Defensively, he competes and has a high activity level and is able to rebound outside his area.”

I like this quote about him. " Where WSU will miss Kunc the most is with his rebounding and his energy. He never took a possession off and was second on the team in defensive rebounding percentage, behind only Efe Abogidi. "

Rebounding? We don't need no stinking rebounding.

Gotta love Aljaz' height, ability to score and he averaged 4rpg in about 20mpg. Looks like 60% of his shots were from 3pt line. Creates more post competition in practice between Conditt, Foster, Hinson and Kunc.

Would love for TJ to bring in a back-to-the-basket post and allow Hinson to play SF.

That doesn’t really exist in basketball anymore and doesn’t really fit with TJ’s style anyway. Garza being a major major exception to that.

Players who can space and pace >> Traditional posts in Otz's (Hoiball) offense. ISU was best with guys like Niang and Burton at the 5

Pronunciation guide please...

Is it Al-jaz, All-jaz, Al-yaz, All-yaz or something else?

Is it Koonce, Koonch, Kunch, or Kunce?

I looked on the Wazzu website and couldn't find it.

Very nice pick up. I will be curious to learn the connections that brought him to TJ & ISU.
