The Fran fade

I haven't read this whole thread. I think Garza is a great player but this is hyperbole at its finest. Compare these stats:
......FG%...3P%....FT%......R........A.......S........B......TO......Pts
A: .526 _ .329 _ .686 _ 7.3 _ 2.3 _ 1.6 _ 0.5 _ 2.0 _ 20.0
B: .546 _ .367 _ .701 _ 7.3 _ 1.2 _ 0.5 _ 1.2 _ 1.4 _ 18.2

You might look at that and give a slight edge to player B. But when you factor in that player A was a 4 time all conference defensive player and could - and often did - guard 1-5 and player B could barely do anything defensively but clog the lane it is clearly player A.

Grayer?

Makes a big difference if he's related to Fran or related to an 80s/90s Iowa player. The latter has worked out.
Sandfort’s parents both played CBB, though not at Iowa. He’ll likely be an ok player for us, nothing super special.

I actually like Settles as an analyst. Of course he's a homer, but he has always been very complimentary of ISU and Hilton....

Jess has learned over the years that his media gigs will be short lived if he doesn't tone down his hok fandom. I know Jess, and to say he has always been complimentary of ISU could not be further from the truth.

The short shorts era.

I knew who he was as a kid and that he was isu's best player but I was...an Iowa fan before college.

Being an Iowa fan in the 80s and early to mid 90s actually has me shaking my head a bit at how many can be so all-in with Fran.

A big part of it is 4 years in an era where very few All Americans even play 3 years. Here's another way to look at it:

A year one: 14.9 pts, 47%fg, 6.7 rebounds, .6 assists, 1.1 steals, .9 blocks
A year two: 18 pts, 45%fg, 7.6 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 1.0 steals, .8 blocks
A year three: 22.8 pts, 58%fg, 7.7 rebounds, 1.1 assists, .8 steals, 1.1 blocks
---Goes top 5 NBA

B year one: 12.1 pts, 56%fg, 6.4 rebounds, 1,1 assists, .3 steals, 1.0 blocks
B year two: 13.1 pts, 53%fg, 4.5 rebounds, .9 assists, .3 steals, .5 blocks
B year three: 23.9 pts, 54%fg, 9.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists, .8 steals, .1.8 blocks
---comes back for 4th year because of quirky skill set where no other players of this era with that production do

Does playing four years matter? Yes. Does that make him "the greatest player by far to ever step foot on a court in this state? No. It's really clear that his year by year production was not any more impressive than Fizer's, ton of bold there for Fizer and most where he didn't lead are very close.

Also need to note that Fizer's teams were slow paced teams. Fizer's points per ISU posession probably absolutely destroy Luka's points per Iowa possession. I'm guessing Luka's teams all averaged more points per game than Fizer's last team that finished ranked #3.

So, if CJ does leave, where does that leave Iowa next year? It was already going to be a challenge with him on board, but where does the scoring come from?

What does their incoming recruiting class look like?

Hoping Fran has another kid coming up

Of the 4 times Fran has made the 32 round @ Iowa, he's lost by 15 or more in 3 of them. Thats a little concerning.

And it took a late run against Tennessee to keep that stat from getting worse.

I can’t figure out why Kentucky would have any interest in Frederick. Or does this mean just the state in general he’s going back to? I’m not trying to knock him- there’s probably <1% of transfers they’d be interested in to begin with.
