The Fran fade

This article hit on Garza's NBA prospects pretty well. They have several quotes from NBA execs about him.

The short summary is: Garza is not someone you're going to spend a high draft pick/lots of money on at the NBA level. However, he's so good at the college level that *someone* has to take a flyer on him and see if he can make it. They acknowledge he's not even close to athletic enough to keep up with NBA talent and is ah huge defensive liability. The league has moved away from his style (big man post up offense), but that doesn't mean he can't carve out a niche bench role and bring in a few mil a year for several years. IF he can translate his game into that type of role, the execs say he can find a spot in the right team. Though, the odds say he ends up making a nice career over seas.

Garza reminds me a bit of Marc Gasol. Not saying he is as good or ever will be, but that's a guy that isn't overly athletic, but can shoot it and does most things well. Defending athletic posts will be a huge limiter, though, unless lots of progress is made there.

I could see him with the Mark Madsen on the Lakers role.

Interesting Iowa fan thread noting the starting guard score was 63-0.

Garza is a beast in the college game but 63-0 guard scoring guarantees victory in every game.

Did Fran forego any impactful grad transfers so that he could keep playing his sons? Imagine how attractive Iowa would have been with that returning roster.

I don't know if I've ever seen a discrepancy quite that huge. I'm sure it's happened before, but I can't imagine too often, especially when the team whose guards were dominated was seeded so much higher. That level of ineptitude out of your starting guards is just staggering.

Even if you told me Garza would score 50...but the Oregon starting backcourt would outscore Iowa's 63-0....I'd easily pick Oregon to win.

So, if CJ does leave, where does that leave Iowa next year? It was already going to be a challenge with him on board, but where does the scoring come from?

What does their incoming recruiting class look like?

Getting sucked down the rabbit hole a bit. Here's a gem:

"Not calling a leaving Garza, weezy, JBo addition by subtraction, but I can see another 20-22 win team next year too. Just redistributed points."
Boy they’re setting themselves up for disappointment

Never mind, I just looked. Another athletic spider named Eli Treehouse.

They’re bringing in one skinny white kid from Iowa who will likely not see the floor in year 1.

Can’t say I blame you. I’d want to watch history be made by the greatest player to step foot in this state.
I haven't read this whole thread. I think Garza is a great player but this is hyperbole at its finest. Compare these stats:
......FG%...3P%....FT%......R........A.......S........B......TO......Pts
A: .526 _ .329 _ .686 _ 7.3 _ 2.3 _ 1.6 _ 0.5 _ 2.0 _ 20.0
B: .546 _ .367 _ .701 _ 7.3 _ 1.2 _ 0.5 _ 1.2 _ 1.4 _ 18.2

You might look at that and give a slight edge to player B. But when you factor in that player A was a 4 time all conference defensive player and could - and often did - guard 1-5 and player B could barely do anything defensively but clog the lane it is clearly player A.
