The Fran fade

This guy gets it:
"You can appreciate whatever you want. Appreciate our uniforms for all I care. Smile and hug your pillow at night. Gratitude is a healthy way to live. I appreciate watching Garza play.

Some people appreciate actual accomplishments. This team had none.

None.

In eleven seasons of coaching, this coach has none.

None.

That’s my only point."

I think a lot of Iowa fans are correct in thinking offense isn't and hasn't been a problem. But I think they are really overestimating the guys on the roster and their ability to chip in to fill the void left by Garza, especially if Wieskamp doesn't come back. It's hard to overstate how offensively inept a guard playing with someone that demands as much attention as Garza and alongside Wieskamp has to be to be as ineffective offensively as the rest of their roster is.

If JW doesn't come back, and Nunge doesn't want to be a 30 year old college senior, their lineup becomes better defensively and a bit more athletic, but smaller and far worse offensively. They have some guys that are nice players like Frederick and Murray, but it is going to be a huge difference for them next year. The younger McCaffrey will be decent. Touissant can make some things happen, but he's out of control most of the time and doesn't get guarded outside of 12'.

Not a single one of those guys were on an opposing team's scouting report. The scouting report said: Garza, JW and probably CJ from 3. That's it.
They had a few guys that looked decent but what happens when teams actually prepare for them and focus their attention on stopping them? Does Murray, Patrick, Touissant look like they can take over a game? Lol no

Unfortunately we've seen first hand what happens when you recruit mid-major level talent. Maybe you hit gold with a guy like Garza, but he's the exception, not the rule.

Weiskamp = Uthoff
Similar games, similar propensity to disappear at times, too soft to compete at the next level.
I’m not talking about competing and playing significant minutes. I’m talking about making a roster. Uthoff has been on 4 different rosters but has played almost entirely in the G league. Joe can and most likely will do something similar.

I think that's a solid comparison but I think Uthoff was probably a little more versatile with his size.
Agree. Joe W is Utoff- lite. Weiscamp’s defense yesterday was horrible. Not sure what positions he or Garza can guard in the NBA.

You have to scroll all the way down. Then back up. Then down again. Then you can just close the page.

This article hit on Garza's NBA prospects pretty well. They have several quotes from NBA execs about him.

The short summary is: Garza is not someone you're going to spend a high draft pick/lots of money on at the NBA level. However, he's so good at the college level that *someone* has to take a flyer on him and see if he can make it. They acknowledge he's not even close to athletic enough to keep up with NBA talent and is ah huge defensive liability. The league has moved away from his style (big man post up offense), but that doesn't mean he can't carve out a niche bench role and bring in a few mil a year for several years. IF he can translate his game into that type of role, the execs say he can find a spot in the right team. Though, the odds say he ends up making a nice career over seas.

Has Jesse Settles been on the Big10 network with his explanation of how his #2 seed hoks gave up 95 points to a team that isn't in the top 90 in scoring?
I heard him blowing a couple of weeks ago that Murray would be the key to a deep hok run in the tourney. He should have worried about their guards showing up first.

I actually have really liked Jess's input over the years on the Monday PM kxno show.

I actually like Settles as an analyst. Of course he's a homer, but he has always been very complimentary of ISU and Hilton. He always liked to joke about Cato sending his shot attempts several rows deep in the stands.
