Two of Steve Prohm’s key staffers will remain at Iowa State.



Assistant coach Daniyal Robinson and director of basketball operations Micah Byars will be retained by new Iowa State head coach T.J. Otzelberger, a source close to the situation confirmed to Cyclone Fanatic Friday night. The news was first reported by the Ames Tribune‘s Travis Hines.



Otzelberger will be the third head coach Robinson has worked under at Iowa State. He was first on staff with Otzelberger under Greg McDermott from 2008 to 2010 then returned to join Steve Prohm’s staff in 2015.



Robinson is credited with being the lead recruiter behind Iowa State’s highly-touted 2018 recruiting class, which featured NBA Draft picks Talen Horton-Tucker and Tyrese Haliburton. He was also the...

If he was going to keep anyone, those two make sense. TJ and DR go back a long time.

If D-Rob can keep Bolton, Foster, Hinson and Hunter around, that's a good foundation for TJ to get going.

And replacing the other 3 coaches is still plenty of room for TJ to get some better assets for the team.
 
D-rob has recruited good players his time here, including some on the roster and Hunter. Get one more recruiter on staff, and an X's and O's guy - I'm on record hoping its Greg Lansing, but Lutz could be the guy.

I saw in Lutz's release that he wants to be able to coach and recruit again. If he comes on staff he'd have to be an AC and not a "special assistant" like Hobbs was or his role at Nubs
