It’s pretty clear that CW and TJ have a good relationship that extends past work boundaries. I’m curious to know how this is going to effect the coverage of Iowa State basketball on Cyclone Fanatic moving forward.

Having an inside track directly to the head coach has both positives and negatives. Are we to expect even more insider nuggets with a patreon membership, or is CW going to set away from coverage of the team?

Just doing my best here guys. Trying to be 100 percent honest with you while analyzing the situation. Zero point in lying about it. If he gets the job, I will probably have to consider not covering the program.

Here's his post in the Emergency Pod thread

CW said on both a podcast and in one of the TJ threads that he would have to consider not covering MBB if TJ was hired
This is amusing. We're talking college basketball here. It's not exactly a matter of national security. If Williams was TJ fanboy #1 what real difference would it make? And don't tell me this site requires journalistic integrity. If it did it would be the first fan site in history. Ever read the Husker boards? You couldn't have bigger homers.

I'm not worried about dying, I'm worried about spreading it to my loved ones who have chronic health issues. If 50% of the population doesn't get vaccinated then the virus will remain forever. It will mutate and mutate and unfortunately the people who did get vaccinated will not be immune to the new mutations.
I think CW should just be honest. No reason to run away from it.

He is being honest. He said TJ is one of his best friends. It's very hard to be totally objective in that case, and Chris was honest with the fact he's thinking about not covering the team. There's plenty of talented individuals in the CF family who could step up.

We've had only preliminary discussions on what this will mean for our coverage. I'm sure we'll be able to give you more in the coming days. The reality is I've done the majority of the writing about the team in recent years anyway so that will not change.

Confirmed: CF staff has known TJ was hired for years!

(who wants to guess Williams has no idea where this gif comes from?)

Agree.
Our AD just hired his friend, but we’re worried about a fan site that’s notoriously a mouth piece for the program being comprised?
I didn't mean to come across as the site being compromised. More in the fact that - are the paid subscriptions offered going to see a large uptick in insider nuggets? If so - I would probably make the jump at a purchase. Essentially we would be getting info directly from the best source possible (head coach)

I’ll take a stab- there will be more nuggets.
There will also be a greater burden on you to figure out which are day old chicken nuggets and which are gold nuggets.

This honestly is a very interesting "navigation" and i greatly appreciate Chris being honest upfront....and he and TJ as friends will have to talk through it too....because goes beyond CF.....he also has the airwaves for several hours a day and will have to talk/respond to calls, etc.

CW has always had to lean in this space to positive spins vs true journalistic lens and had to navigate that....just another layer now (i mean, if he looks through the boards he could get defensive at all of 'us' bagging on his friend) And will probably have to bring this up as there may be an assumption "sources" Stanz may have are VERY close to reality, etc.

Also, i've thought this before as gambling gets more and more prevalent in the state and in discussion....do this and other relationships put folks at any risk? Meaning, say CW is having a garage beer with his buddy TJ and TJ is like "i don't think XXX player is a go for Saturday....dinged up" and then CW doing the "locks of the week" segment and truly has an inside info. I know, random, but that has been on my mind even for the staff that cross with other roles in athletics (blum calling games, etc)

I also know CW is a professional as is TJ. You never want to put friends in weird spots and I bet they find the sweet spot to keep it comfortable as a friendship.

What about the rest of them? ;)
