Steve Prohm releases statement

If you don’t think Jamie lies, you’re naive.

I’m sure like any politician, he knows how to technically tell the truth. He knows the donors enough to know who will pay for TJ (Albaugh) and who will pay to get rid of prohm (apparently not bergstrum). He knows what the sukups will pay for.

But someone has to pay for prohm. And if I’m wrong and UNLV is devastated that we are taking TJ away, someone will have to pay for that.
Such a sinister outlook on life. And one which will never help the reputation of our university.

I posted that in another thread...basically "your sources were wrong" lol
But yeah, probably partially due to how connected a small state like Iowa is folks feel they "know people" and the old telephone game kicks in quick. How many times have i heard from people about ISU/Iowa "we got good tickets...the boss is a big donor" and usually that isn't true...usually it's "they got tickets...the person did donate" but the person who got the tickets who had a chat with the person feels that speculation becomes truth.
Yep. The old adage: 'if you hear a lie enough you begin to believe it's the truth'. I was raised to always question the integrity of the source and to be very cautious of any '2nd hand' information.

I can't like this post enough.

Obviously it ended in a way no one wanted it to end, especially Steve Prohm, but watching this video is why I get pretty aggressive pretty quickly and have no qualms about going after them when spectacular a$$holes like CyLyte proclaim that CSP never loved ISU and was only in it for the paycheck.
Agree. He needs to go back to the Hawkeye board where he belongs.

Agree....and also.....those guys (and current guys) trusted him, liked him, etc...that can be true AND we can also want a new coach...and our new coach will build relationships with the guys that stay and bring in guys that are bought into their future, too.

My 2 cents: CSP and his staff did a great job of recruiting and bringing us good players. But his teams here were never good at defense or rebounding. Just came across as though those were two skills that they did not know how to teach to the players well. So, good/great players, sometimes exciting on offense, but we were never going to make any progress on defending and rebounding. Sad to see him go, just like Jamie said, but a change had to be made.

Gotta be a little mean and nasty on those things.

I think our teams under Hoiberg lacked in that area too but made up for it a lot of times raining 3s or being a step ahead offensively. Also we had a few players like Hogue and Kane where it was just in their DNA to play tough and mean. These last few teams, even the B12 tourney title team, didn't really have personalities like that where they were just natural brawler types without it being drilled in. The way college basketball is often officiated I feel it's actually more important than in the modern NBA.

I wish someone would've told Prohm that scripture doesn't belong in the locker room. Save that stuff for when you're coaching at a small private school. It's Coaching 101 on how not to divide a locker room.
I will never take anything you say seriously. Your "name" and avatar speak volumes toward your sincerity and knowledge.

We're all grown ups here and can think past what is just flatly said. Someone wrote a check to the Iowa State Athletics department for something....anything really...and the money can all be moved around to avoid it being said that it was "directly for firing Steve Prohm." That's how you keep the "family culture" alive at a school like ISU....you don't let it become public knowledge that you're willing to sacrifice your own. At the end of the day, it's a business and it needed to be done, but don't kid yourselves....someone paid financially (donor) for this outcome. If not, then the whole athletics department can shove it where the sun don't shine for how tough this pandemic has been and their $25 million short fall. And that goes for every athletics department in the country not named Texas, Alabama, Ohio St.....

I don’t think it’s that confusing. I think Jamie makes the decisions but he does know where the donors land on various issues. So I bet Jamie knew who he could go to for extra money for the buyout. And who he can go to for TJs buyout.

That doesn’t mean the donors are calling the shots.

I hope CSP becomes an assistant for a really good coach, learns and then gets another HC job because with a little learning he will be a very good HC.
Agree. Wish the best for Coach Prohm!

The most current corrollary I can think of is Bryce Drew. Look what happened to him. Successful Valpo coach, hit bottom at Vanderbilt (also went 0-18 there in conference his last year), landed on his feet and doing very well at Grand Canyon now.

I'm hoping similar will eventually happen to Steve P. He just needs to find the right fit.

Would ISU hire anybody like Johnny Orr today? Johnny could be a little rough around the edges and let his temper(and language) get away form him, but he knew basketball. I'm afraid some people would raise holy#### if he was hired today.

Might be true. But how could you not love Johnny O?

We maybe have overdone the Political correct thing a little at times. It's a good thing though, progress, definitely needed.

Agree, you don't need a team full of brawlers, but having at least one is valuable.

That's the case in several other niche-role categories.

It's less important in NBA games because there are less games where officials allow brawls...but even in modern NBA the best teams have one or two guys who are an enforcer type.

In college basketball, if there is a "let them play" type of game you're just screwed if the coach doesn't demand that sort of play or you don't have a few players like that. Personally I wouldn't want us to play like WVU because I just hate that style of basketball, but you have to rebound to win. Hate complimenting them, but Baylor's an example of a team that can dominate the boards without turning the sport into a completely different ugly game.

I never got the impression that Prohm was going to use ISU as a stepping stone for a bigger job. I honestly felt that he had the same mindset and goals that Campbell does that he truly wanted to stay at ISU long term and build something that no one before him had accomplished and he wanted to do it in a way that Cyclone fans would be proud of not cutting corners and do it the right way. Unfortunately that did not happen and at the end of the day you are evaluated on winning games and this season was one that could not be excused.

I like Prohm, I think he is a great man and he is someone I genuinely supported and wanted to see succeed at ISU from the day he took the job but I also can't look past the results in the W/L column either. I don't think this is the end of the road for him and he will land on his feet somewhere just like another former ISU coach I have a lot of the same thoughts about in Greg McDermott who has done well since he left. Some guys are just not good fits for this job but that doesn't make them bad coaches and I think both Greg and Steve are of the same type that if I had a son I would love for them to play for a coach like them.

I have no idea why anyone would question that Coach Prohm felt blessed, driven, and proud to be a Cyclone.
