STANZ: Coaching Search Hot Board 1.0

This is not Jamie's style. He's going to go after whatever he thinks is best for ISU MBB.
I think JP is going to go after whoever is best for ISU Athletics. That may mean compromising a little on one sport for the good of the whole department. He’s a smart dude, and we are lucky to have him, but he knows that his resources are limited and he’s got to invest them wisely for the best total return, not just the return on ISU MBB.

Altman would be my top pick, then Matta, then Hoiberg. I wouldn't like getting TJ but I'd just hope there's something I'm missing out of his lackluster UNLV stop.

Hope whoever we get gives me a good reason to get excited about basketball again!

Why are you thinking of this false dichotomy?
Increasing the chances one of your two revenue sports get out of the basement is worth whatever cost you think that imposes on football.

Remember, JP is willing to spend on Martin Smith.

Obviously timing is everything from now on. If we start hearing there is announcement coming like tomorrow or yet this week, we can probably deduce there's a good chance it's someone in the TJ/Fred/Matta/Beilein group. The longer an announcement takes I think we're looking at a coach still playing. That would be the Altman/Turgeon/DeVries/Gates etc group.

I agree. I’ll feel a bit better about hiring TJ if it looks like they really considered others.

What about Matt Abdelmassih who has rejoined Fred Hoiberg at Nebraska, but has a very good reputation for recruiting the Northeast, especially the Boston to New York corridor?
