Iowa State’s nightmare of a 2020-21 men’s basketball season is over.

That became official shortly before 10:30 Wednesday night when the final buzzer sounded on the Cyclones’ 79-73 loss to No. 25 Oklahoma in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City.

The loss extended Iowa State’s school-record losing streak to 18 games and ended its season with an overall record of 2-21. It is only the fourth time in program history with two or fewer victories in a season and the first since 1924-25.

Now, the waiting game begins…

That wait centers around Iowa State athletic director Jamie Pollard and his decision on if head coach Steve Prohm will return for his seventh season at the program’s helm or if he’ll be relieved of his duties and a...

Key excerpt. About Pollard, Prohm said,
"Like I’ve said, we talk all the time."

I read this to mean that he is giving Prohm an opportunity to put something in place for himself.

Solomons career high in rebounds is only 12?
LOL wow.

Even crazier stat is Solo made 51 starts between double-digit rebound games. Last night was his 84th start at Iowa State. His last double-digit rebound game was his 33rd start, the upset win over WVU in Jan. 2018.

Mad respect for Solo’s effort last night though. Kid battled his ass off to the end. Wasn’t going down without a fight.

He has had some really good games in that time frame as well. Walker had more rebounds earlier this season in a game.

5 double digit rebound games in his entire career. That’s hard to do as a post player.

He battled through some significant injuries and he represented ISU well. Good luck to him in the future.

When this is officially over can someone please write a lengthy post-mortem. When you sit back and analyze just how bad things got and how quickly it happened it's craziness.

I know we all had moments in those first two years that didn't make sense and 2018-2019 had highs and lows but I never thought it would get this bad this quickly.

Thanks Jared for the USA sports article....the guy nailed it when he said, "the transfer market could also hurt Iowa State"

I agree with that statement because you dont know how many players are going to come back next year from this disasterous season.

Like I have said before PATIENCE GUYS because this may take at least a couple years to get back to competitiveness in the Big XII.....

“... before complete apathy within the fanbase sets in”.
Realized last night it has already set in for me. I really wanted to watch the game and mentioned it multiple times to my wife that I wanted to watch yesterday.. but then completely forgot about it. When I realized later that I had, I didn’t even check the score.. now I just can’t forget to turn off ESPN+.

Stay tuned. :)

Is the money there to fire Prohm? Bruce Weber and Jeff Mittee will both most likely be back at Kansas State because no big donor has stepped forward so far to fund the buy outs. Covid has made it very difficult to fire people that richly deserve to be sent packing, especially in sports that lose money on an annual basis.

If I had to guess what really was the turning point was the 2019 recruiting class. Do think Prohm got too confident that more of the 2018 class was going to stay longer so he could take risks in the next class, most notably Leech, but we all know how that ended up. I think Prohm got caught with his hand in the cookie jar looking to for developmental projects. That doesn’t work though if your good recruits leave along with your developmental ones

he did leave it all on the floor last night but why does it take the last game of his college career to do that? He should be grabbing 10 boards every night with his size and athletic ability.

To be fair we don’t know how much his injuries affected him and another reason I would say is the ungodly amount of jump shots we took this year

...the talent needed to compete at a consistently high-level in this league just is not there.

Is it a talent issue or roster construction? I haven’t seen enough of 2 of the freshman to have an opinion, but it seems like everyone is talented enough, we just have a roster full of 2 guards in point-guard frames, three 5s, and no 4s (again). Am I overestimating the talent?
