Coaching Search: Place your bets

No it boils down to why would you pay 10 million dollars for a coach who's 5-34 in his own conference
JP knows this is a HUGE hire for him and Iowa State. We’re on the cusp of something huge for football and we have an opportunity to bring a level of excitement to our entire athletics that we haven’t seen before.

I personally don’t think Fred’s Nebraska stint has hurt his chances with us. I think it more has to do with contractural obligations that Fred may not want to sign on for. Hopefully they can figure something out because Hoiberg and CMC being in the same town at the same time?? Hoofta, sign me up. I’m drinking all the kool aid baby.

I don't have time to catch up so I'm behind and not sure what is happening. Whats going on, what is this all about? Is Fred looking at us or something along those lines? thanks.

There’s some smoke out there that Fred wants back and has wanted back here for some time. He will be a candidate for the job but there are obvious hurdles that will lead this to be tougher than him just packing his bags for Ames. His buyout with Prohm’s buyout may be an issue, however I’ve been told $ will be there. There are also issues with Fred’s current staff and the fact that his hypothetical contract would favor ISU more than him due to him leaving us.

It would be like Ditka and Michael Jordan in the same town! DA CLONES!

JP has an ego.

But assuming Hoiberg wants back (and I doubt it’s serious interest) there are legit reasons why it wouldn’t work.

1. The game has changed. Has he?
2. The NBA buyout. There must be one.
3. The assistants. Matt A burned bridges (with hoibergs approval). If I’m JP, he’s a non starter. If Matt a doesn’t come, who the hell recruits for Hoiberg.
Someone else. That’s how it works. Fred kept TJ to do that job. There’s no shortage of “recruiters” in the world. I don’t understand why people think like that.

Who did Matt A land? Honestly...not making a statement but if someone could point out Matt A's recruits it may indicate how big of an influence he had here. It seems like Matt A was the lead guy on the "huge" recruits it seemed we always finished 2nd in getting!

He was the transfer guy. Kane, BDJ, etc.

He hasn’t and still might not. He may choose someone who’s less expensive but a better fit. I’ve just heard that the $ should be there for just about anyone.

IF this is true, the implications range further than just the willingness to spend on a proven 'bigger name' coach. It also likely implies that JP (and the Big XII in general) feels really good about current TV rights negotiations that are rapidly approaching decision points. Extending CMC out to 2028 at a salary rumored to be near $5M (a rumor from this thread I believe) is also a positive indicator in that regard.

Yep I think it means that is true as well as the rumor of their being donors ready to pony up big $ for someone being true.

I know that’s the out pushed by some, but it wouldn’t be $10 million.
It may be more than you or Jamie would like to pay, but it’s not more than what would be available if Jamie wanted to go that direction.

If there’s a will, there’s a way. But there’s no will, yet.
