The Fran fade

Yeah I've seen Luka elbow guys in the face and it's usually done in a legal way so there's no flagrant call. Specifically last night, there were at least 3 times where Luka threw a hard elbow into the defender's side while getting around the guy. That is illegal.

I'm not saying he deserves to be thrown out of the game or anything. I'm just saying that throwing an elbow is an offensive foul every single time you do it. Bodying someone up in the post is discretionary.
Most of the Big Ten officials have seen Garza play dozens of times. They review film of the games. If they thought his chicken wing was a foul, they would call it. It never gets called even when playing games outside of the Big Ten. He is not throwing elbows, or it would absolutely get called.

I never said he used it every single time lol I literally said 3 times and yes it was 3 times. And the cylinder rule almost completely goes out the window down low. It'd be impossible to consistently call the cylinder rule down low. It's so damn hard to determine whether or not it's the offensive player or defensive player who is allowed to occupy the space.
We agree on this more than we're acting i think you're being reasonable i may just have a tint of hawks sunglasses and you the cyclones/big ten

If you pivot with the movement of the elbows it is legal. Most of Garza's elbows are strictly him clearing out space and is illegal. Big 10 refs let him get away with far too much, and when defenders push him back they give him free throws.

JorBo is a good player. However the commentators were gushing over his career stats - which nobody ever brings up he has essentially played for 4.5 years. He is 23.5 years old - most kids still in college at his age have completed their masters and working towards a doctorate degree.

Agree...gonna have to steal minutes here and there...take him out a minute before the TV timeout or something. Problem is him sitting extended minutes.

As much as fatigue, there's no doubt with the loss of Nunge Garza knows he can't sit. It probably makes him a little less aggressive going after offensive rebounds, initiating contact on offense and challenging shots.

There were years or at least stretches of years where ISU had very good teams but limited frontcourt depth with guys like Ejim and Niang. There might be times you want to challenge a shot on help D, but if you've got a foul and you're 8 minutes into the first half, you probably can't afford to.

Refs from other conferences do as well. I guess they don't understand the rules.

Two separate times from last night lol. Both illegal and are missed calls by the referees. Go back and watch the film and if you can tell me that these plays are in fact legal, then you don't know basketball.

If your argument is that the defender was hounding him and that was Garza's only choice, that is still invalid because someone else fouling you doesn't make your illegal move legal.

He does do a great job of keeping the elbow bent and not extending which I think helps him get away with it.

These next three games for Iowa are critical in how they'll be seeded in the Big 10 Tournament. Depending on how a few different teams do, Iowa could get anywhere from 2nd to 6th.
If I was betting I would still say most likely a 3. We'll see how losing Nunge impacts things. Id say tighten the rotation and increase Murray's minutes.

It's absolutely crazy how you can say that Luka doesn't hook people when he's on offense. Do you know why referees don't call it sometimes? Because each call is made within the context of the game and not in a vacuum. Luka also happens to be an all american and you're much more likely to get calls when you're one of those.

Georges Niang used to travel all. the. time. when he was in college. He'd get away with it because he was who he was and it happened so often, that referees couldn't call every single one.

That's blatant. And the official is standing five feet away. Cheatin' ************!

That's what YOU say...so Fran will probably have the other Murray and Ogundele running around 3-8 minutes each game.

The second one really caught my eye and looked especially egregious. That’s why I asked the question earlier.

It depends on a few things but this weekend's game against Ohio State is huge. If Ohio State wins, Iowa cannot get a 3 seed. They are getting at least a 4 seed no matter what.

If Iowa loses to Ohio State AND Wisconsin, Iowa would get a 5 seed and could get a 6 seed if Purdue beats Wisconsin.
