He's OK. I think he was better last year. IMO his limitations have become even more exposed, despite his numbers still being impressive.

I could be wrong. I only casually observe Iowa games, usually catch a few minutes at a time between watching Netflix on my phone while my father in law has the Iowa game on. He looks slow, more plodding, and heavier than he did a year ago. Numbers impressive yes. Uses elbows and mass to get into favorable position. Has a smooth jumper and 3 pt shot for a big man. Ft shooting is all arms, no legs, good thing he's strong enough to heft the ball in like that. Very soft and slow on the defensive side, might even take plays off. He was probably like that last year too though. Rebounding he really isn't that great for 6'11''/7'0'' whatever he is. He scraps for them though.
They are much closer to the first 4 than the final four. That is hilarious! Makes me think of guys like Chris Hassel saying that if Iowa keeps playing the way they have been, they are for sure a lock for the final four.
Joe W's been on fire from 3 lately. Can he consistently shoot 3's at a high clip like he's been doing the last 3-4 games? If he can, Iowa will be a tough out. History suggests a regression to the mean is bound to happen. End of the day, just like so many Hoiball teams, Iowa lives and dies by the 3. If it's falling, they are tough and can hang with anyone no matter how bad their defense is. If it isn't falling, they can lose to teams that they should be better than (see Indiana 2x). Fortunately, they have 4 guys that can really light it up at any given time. Makes it rare to have overall poor shooting performances because if a couple guys are off target, maybe a couple of other guys aren't. That makes having a healthy Frederick so important for this team. Otherwise it's a lot of pressure on JW, Jorbo and Garza to be "on".
He's got a great looking shot no doubt.I agree with everything you said. Weezy has been on fire and I feel the most impressive part is that he is taking hand in your face contested shots and still making them. Very rarely is he ever really "open". But he has just enough of a dribble drive threat, that the defense has to honor it and it gives him just enough space to get off a shot even though it looks like he is being guarded normally.
as far a defense goes...Pretty sure the staff emphasizes the importance of staying out of foul trouble. Better he’s on the floor than picking up cheap fouls.I could be wrong. Earlier in the season I was doubting not so much his ability or skill set but his demeanor and aggressiveness. He has come a long way recently. I was in denial a couple months ago, but would now argue he has made a great case for himself at the next levelI agree with everything you said. All I was really saying is if the goal was to make it to the next level (NBA) by coming back this year, I don't think he's done any better job of selling himself this year, despite again putting up gaudy stats. The things he was bad at last year he is still bad at. He isn't more athletic all of a sudden. In fact I think he looks like he's gained mass and is even slower somehow.as far a defense goes...Pretty sure the staff emphasizes the importance of staying out of foul trouble. If Frank secured him a million dollar European shoe deal, I can't imagine what it would be worth as an NBA player. It's not an either or.
He plays to avoid foul trouble, but he also doesn't have the foot speed to defend huge % of Big Ten players. Lots of those players are going right around him whether he gives 100% or 0% on D.
If he did have that foot speed on D, he wouldn't still be playing college basketball and he'd be rich already.

If his goal was simply to come back and stuff stat sheets and win personal awards, then yeah he's doing that.
It’s kinda funny all media and Iowa fans are all like “We are great on D!”.. vs some of the worst offenses in P5.. Wisconsin offense was one worst I’ve seen.. Had nothing to do with Iowa. Wisc couldn’t hit a barn last night.. They were bad.
When Wisc is hitting shots they are good.. With 4 min to go in 1st half Wisc was literally like 20% from field..
Wisc shot 30% from field for game! Hell Isu isn’t even That bad.. They missed (21) threes.. Lmao
Meh. We must not be watching the same NBA. He will need to shed a ton of weight and get some bounce in that step if he's gonna stick anywhere in the league.I think he will have a career because of his outside shooting. He's improved it a little, but there was enough there last year to prove he has a good shot for a big.
It's always been about his foot speed on D. That's what will project him as a bench player vs a career starter. There are going to be certain matchups where he just can't be on the court for long stretches. There will be other nights where he creates mismatches of his own and can add value for a lot of teams.
As far as the Hawks defensive deficiencies I put Garza way down the list. Even with lack of foot speed he does ok. Trying to stay out of foul trouble does play a factor as well. It's not an either or.

he’s not ever going to be quick. He maximizes the abilities he has...which more than many players can say.All I was really saying is if the goal was to make it to the next level (NBA) by coming back this year, I don't think he's done any better job of selling himself this year, despite again putting up gaudy stats. My best comparison for Garza is Tim Tebow. Has the right skills to be very successful in college, with some critical weaknesses in important areas at the pro level. There are a lot of teams, someone will take flyer because they think it will work, but it probably won't.
Going 8-36 (22%) from two point range will do that to you.Wisconsin has the #41 adjusted offense in the country. Wisconsin shot 38% from 3, and this is the first time this year that Wisconsin lost a game when hitting 10 or more 3 pointers.
