ISU vs UNI postgame thread

I have found the secret to ISU winning in FB and MBB. When ISU beat IA at home in FB last year I got hammered before the game. I got hammered before the game last night. I made it to the first media timeout, then passed out and woke up just in time to see the final score. So I just need to get hammered before every game.
 
There was a question asked earlier in the thread about why UNI fans seem to hate ISU, and I think the quote below will give you a good idea about why that might be true....

I left thinking to myself - FINALLY! We put UNI back where they belong.

Before I go on, in the interest of discretion I am a dual fan; I grew up in Ames an Iowa State fan, and some of my fondest childhood memories are of going to games at Hilton. I also went to UNI for school and spent five wonderful years there earning my bachelor's (yeah, five years. I switched majors).

We Cyclone fans HATE it when Hawkeye fans look down their nose at us...so therefore, why do some of you act so surprised and offended when UNI fans react in the same way when they get looked down on by you as we do with Hawk fans when they look down on us? To expect any less and wonder "why do they hate us?" is the very definition of silliness and audacity.

I wouldn't have been heartbroken last night if UNI had won, as I could never cheer against them, but I was pulling for ISU to win last night, as I thought a victory by ISU over UNI is more important right now in the program's evolution than a UNI victory over ISU would have been.
 
Good analysis ISUChippewa. It is comments like that that really anger the true Panther fans. Many UNI fans feel like when UNI wins these games that the Panthers are putting ISU "where they belong". UNI has had alot of success against ISU in athletics the past few years, and lots of UNI fans expect to win those games. Many of you may not like that, but that is the way it is.

And NO, contrary to many ISU fan's belief, not ALL UNI fans are Iowa fans. I certainly am not. I hate Iowa as much as you do. But I will admit that there are some UNI fans that are also Iowa fans. But how can you blame them? As an ISU fan, you have to sit back and objectively look at our situation. UNI is in eastern Iowa, right in the MIDDLE of Iowa Hawkeye country. Most people around here do not grow up as Panther fans. They grow up cheering for the team that there mom and dad do. The same team that is always on TV. The same team that has tons of merchandise at every store. That kind of stuff is the advantage that schools like ISU and Iowa have over the smaller UNI in the state of Iowa. Would all of you have been Iowa State fans if you were in UNI's position? Most of you would not be. Its easy to follow everyone else and love the team that gets all of the attention such as Iowa.

Point being, its always going to be a tough road for UNI, being in a state with two other much larger D-I schools. And I'm fine with that. I dont feel any need to be a huge school. I love what we have at UNI. But there are many true Panther fans, and I am proud to be one of them.

I think it is interesting that Wes played 29 minutes and only shot the ball 4 times. For a guy who is used to being the primary scorer on his team, he really showed that he is willing to accept whatever role Mac gives him in the game.

On a side note, I wonder what is going through Buckley's mind. He didn't even sniff the floor last night, Garret is obviously one of the pillars of this team, and all anyone can talk about is Colvin coming next year. I saw him a couple times during time outs and he didn't even look like he was into the game mentally. Hopefully he starts to find his way soon.
 
Good post ISUChippewa...Im with you grew up a State fan but became a UNI grad and I do feel a little a bit of alligence towards them but its not even close compared to ISU...I always hated the Iowa/UNI fans in school but i guess i was no different being ISU/UNI

I understand what you're saying, but are you honestly telling us that Iowa doesn't look down at UNI? I mean, at least we will play you guys in football. Considering UNI is a 1-AA (FCS, whatever) power, we run a real risk of losing (obviously considering last season). We'd be better off playing some lousy school we know we could beat as our 1-AA game. It just seems like we respect the rivalry enough to take a big risk in playing you semi-regularly.

I can respect true fans like you. UNI has a real nice athletics program. You guys are consistently good in football (albeit in a lower division) and have done well in the (arguably) best mid-major conference in basketball. You deserve better fans than Hok fans pretending to be Panther fans only when you play us.
 
The problem with Hawk fans is that they look down on teams/programs that are superior to them but they are to dumb torealize it.

Wes was being used draw a defender out to him (you have to respect him already as a shooter) and also, he plays decent defense and is a relatively good ballhandler. Mac has also stated he is a smart player so perhaps he wanted a "coach on the floor" type person out there. Only theorizing here.

And no one but pantherhawks who troll here like you care. You can say you're an ISU fan all you want but your posts tell a different story. Rather than taking every opportunity possible to make punk*** snide remarks about the Cyclones why don't you find a UNI board.

I never said that Iowa did not look down on UNI. They DO. WAY more than Iowa State. Like you said, I have always respected ISU for playing us in football, and always being more of a friendly rivalry with some respect shown between the two sides. Iowa doesn't think UNI deserves to be on the same athletic world as Iowa.

Heck, you should have seen the meltdown on the Iowa board last week when a Maine player said after the UNI playoff game that the UNI d-line was better than Iowa's. A complete meltdown. No Iowa fan could even fathom that thought, and it wasn't even a UNI person that said it. It was a player that played against both teams.

I never claimed to be an ISU fan. You proved yourself to be a very smart person, by the way.
 
I can understand your feelings about "putting programs back where they belong". I also realize UNI has had some recent success against ISU. I am glad that you expect to beat us. I wish you more success.

If you think that UNI is on the same level as ISU in terms of talent, recruiting, facilities, and athletic budget, then I respectfully disagree. Usually, the above referenced things = a more successful athletic program. That said, it is true that a more determined team can beat a superior talented team.

ISU and Iowa are BCS schools - UNI is not.

ISU has had some lean years recently, two coaching changes will do that. You beat us during some re-building years in basketball and downward trend in football re-building in football.

In my 28 years, ISU has enjoyed mostly success against UNI. I want ISU to continue to do so. The game the other night was a big step in that direction.

What you didnt see in the picture is the ISU player punching the UNI player in the balls right before he did that....:wink:

Do you mean literally or figuritively. I would say the loss was a punch to the balls..... =) Was a good game though. I have always liked UNI and hope they do well, just not against us.

So, the question still remains....Why do Panther fans seem to hate ISU fans more than they hate Hawk fans? Iowa looks down on them more than ISU does (as you stated above).

The obvious answer is that the majority of panther grads are hawk fans first.
