NFL: Kansas City Chiefs Thread

Watch Out KnappShack All these Patrick Mahome Lovers are going to come after you Big Time

History is on my side.

We only have to look at Dan Marino. After he lost the Super Bowl it was all down hill.

The Dolphins obviously needed to send Marino to the Bears for Jim McMahon.

The Punky QB would've racked up multiple titles in South Beach

Mahomes for Foles NEEDS to happen

The opt outs by Duvernay-Tardif and Niang really impacted this team as well. Will the Dr. return and is Niang worthy of his draft position are big questions? Whatever the answer, this organization must do everything it can to protect Patrick.
It was news on NFL Network yesterday morning that LDT and Damian Williams plan on coming back next year.

Im willing to throw in Mitch Trubisky as well if that will help the trade.

I mean. Mahomes won one Super Bowl. And people talk like he’s gonna be the greatest. You know who else won one Super Bowl? Trent Dilfer.
Wow. The dude is 25 years old. One off game with back up lineman and this is your take? Foolish.

Who is going to beat KC in the AFC? Who? The stats that this guy has put up in his YOUNG career is mind-blowing.

He's going to have a ton of shots at titles. Keep hating.
Two polar opposite views. First view above not all wrong, although I wouldn't have phrased it that way. Pat only has one super Bowl. But he was in SB last two of first three years while starting QB, and almost made SB all 3 years! Impressive. He is the real deal.

Aaron Rodgers only one SB win also. That worries me a little if compare him to Mahomes. Both Green Bay and KC have QB heavy contracts which potentially hurts the rest of the team. Hard to get as many good players around them as competition, especially veteran players still in prime. Salary cap issues every year from here on, 10 years or so with KC.

With Mahomes talent and good coaching, management however, Chiefs will have + chances every year.

It was kind of terrifying last night what happens when you take the best offense in the NFL, and maybe the best offense since the Warner-Faulk-Bruce-Holt Rams of yore, and replace its offensive line with replacement-level guys. Not often line play is the story of the Super Bowl, but it certainly was last night during that display.

Kind of puts into perspective why Iowa State was so bad for so long.

Was not real confident in Chiefs win this past Sunday before game. Several reasons. Many Chiefs (top of list, Chris Jones) and fans seemed overconfident. Bucs getting better each game of year, many good pieces on team, and Tom Brady. Bucs able to scheme on loss earlier in season.

Even less confident, yes they could do it but..., with patchwork Offensive Line, and upon hearing Mahomes will need surgery on foot in off-season, I had mixed feelings on this one. OL couldn't block, and Mahomes couldn't scramble like usual. Then the Brady factor. There's a reason this guy's made 10 SB's and now won 7 of them. GOAT. Tip of the hat. The Bucs a very good team around him as well. They peaked at just the right time.

Next year. Many more chances to come. I hope.

Some good quotes from Mahomes here. Good learning experience for him/team:

"It was a bad feeling in that locker room after the game,'' Mahomes said a day after the Chiefs' 31-9 loss. "You don't want to have that feeling again.

"It's not the end of something. It's going to be another chapter where we're going to have to continue to drive to make ourselves better so we're back in that game.''

"I'm going to look at the film and try to find ways to get better,'' Mahomes said. "Obviously with our offense and the success that we've had, when teams see the defensive plan that [the Bucs] had and how well it worked, they're obviously going to try to do the same things. So we'll try to find ways to combat that. It's the evolution of our offense where we're going to have to do better things and be more efficient.

"That really goes with me and not always looking for the big play but just finding ways to move the ball down the field.''

Mahomes said he will work on taking what the defense gives the Chiefs rather than focusing on the big play.

"I thought I did a good job toward the end of the season of being more efficient,'' he said. "Obviously I didn't do that in the Super Bowl, but I'm going to try to find ways to better myself that way. Just being more efficient, taking what's there, especially when these teams are playing such deep coverages against us.

"It's something I've got to battle with because I've got such an aggressive nature and want to have the big play. But as I watch the film and really study myself, I'll have to get better at that so I can be a better quarterback at the end of the day.''

This is why this guy is going to continue to dominate. He doesn't settle and is always trying to get better.

I had a torn plantar plate this last year.

Holy ****....respect for being able to play at a high level with that type of situation

Numb/drugged up foot or pretty nasty pain. Either way....whew
Yep lot of people hear "turf toe" and think it isn't that severe. That injury has ended players careers.

I didn't even have a tear but had a milder form of turf toe and it sucked. Every damn step you felt it.

All I know is that Mahomes makes some throws and plays happen that no other QB in the league seems to be be able to make and he still has a lot of his prime years ahead of him. He's a competitor and seems to have a good head on his shoulders. I believe him when he says this loss will motivate him the rest of his career. I just hope the Chiefs front office makes the commitment to put a good team around him, especially the OL that needs some help now so he doesn't waste his best years running for his life every time he takes a snap like Rodgers and a few others had to do some years.

Two questions I guess: 1. Chances pretty good then for 100% recovery with good surgery (for Mahomes)? 2. For those who have had it, turf toe...sounds painful. We know Mahomes was limited in mobility due to it. Question I have. Did he play the game thru the pain, OR, did they just medicate the painful area (injections) during the game? Do they still inject, numb painful areas to allow players to play (if no risk for further injury)? Is that common, legal in sports?

Not a doctor, but my guess is he'll be back to a new normal soon after surgery. My issue still talks to me when I play with the kid. Cutting doesn't make it happy

But, Mahomes is a world class athlete with world class care. He'll be on the dance floor before he knows it.

Jack Lambert. Look that fella up. One of the toughest men to live. Career ended by turf toe.

Highlights how amazing Iowa States' OL this year really was. Alot of injuries and it seemed like "next man up". The patchwork they did all season was still effective. That is great depth and shows how Campbell feels about line play.

The Chiefs, not so much luck with the O-line, on the last game anyway.

They will have to spend some money on O-line, and depth, to make sure Mahomes has best chance to stay healthy.

Deion Sanders is another player that it really hurt at end of his career as well.

The problem is the NFL only gives you so much draft capital and salary cap.

The Chiefs naturally aren't going to have much of the former because they'll be picking at the back of every round. And they aren't going to have much of the latter because they're paying Mahomes so much.

Something else is going to have to give, either on defense or on backs/receivers if they're investing in the line. Investing in the line might still make sense given you have to protect your 1/2 billion dollar QB, but taking away some of his weapons or making him play opposite a mediocre or bad defense is going to make things harder.

They are pretty blessed right now, though. Most of their key guys are under contract for amounts that are reasonable or even good value relative to their production. Mahomes' contract starts ballooning in 2022 and 2023 and will eat up most increases in the cap, but it is tolerable now given how good and productive he has been. They have a very "clean" cap sheet with very little dead money on it, too. They can probably still be buyers this offseason, and I bet some ring-chasing veterans are going to want to play on that team (and might do it for a discount, too).
