The Fran fade

I wouldn’t want to eat in that Jimmy John’s in February or March. The quality in sandwiches just wouldn’t be up to par.
On the plus side, McCabe lets Hawkeye fans order off the secret menu, and get his famous "Fat One". It's a double portion of bologna with extra mayo. And Zach delivers it personally...

I want Fran to be at Iowa for 20 more years but if I'm being honest BJ Armstrong would intrigue me. He would be a disaster

So Fran is more worried about developing players for the future than winning now. This is a once in 25 year shot at something if you are Iowa and Fran is worried about next year. Most coaches pull back on playing time for their bench as the season goes on, not Fran. His 2 foul rule is also something. You sit your best player with 2 fouls in the first half and he ends up with 2 fouls in the whole game.

I think the Dolph situation killed Fran with the media. He got one of them suspended so they are willing to go after Fran. Dolph may suck as a PxP guy but he seems to be a nice guy overall.

I think he is actually pretty good for a homer.

Random thoughts:

  1. The last shot of the game for Indiana shows just how slow Joe W is with his first step on defense. Had no chance on legitimately guarding that shot.
  2. Fran basically fouled out Luka....Luka had 2 fouls.
  3. Starting 5 points per minute played: Murray-0.625, Garza-0.667, Joe W. - 0.434, Connor- 0.125, Bobo - 0.325
  4. Connor McCaffery had more fouls than points. He also had more fouls than combined rebounds and assists.
  5. The McCaffery brothers had a combined 6 fouls. Their combined points, assists, and rebounds was 8. They combined for 35 minutes of playing time.
  6. Garza with only 2 rebounds....Iowa can't win if he doesn't get more.
  7. I don't hate Fran's decision to bench Luka in the first half if Iowa is showing it can maintain being competitive in the game. He throws a little hissy fit when asked about it. All he has to say is "You know Mark, sometimes its a hindsight 20/20 deal. I put him back in and he gets a third foul and I'm handcuffed in the second half. So I decided to leave him out and see how the other guys could manage."
