The Fran fade

Do you think Fran's professionalism, decorum, and way he represents the program is good?

Overall, yes.

He has outbursts that have caused embarrassment for him and Iowa but if you look at his 11 years as the coach, he is thought of as an overall positive for the program.

He rarely has players transfer. His players graduate and for the most part stay out of trouble.

I have never read a bad word about Fran from a current or former player.

Look, I have a ton of Iowa friends, two who are my best friends. They were furious when Fran was extended. They now say that obviously it all worked out, but they are worried it will all revert back to the mean after this senior class and JW leaves.

I think most Iowa fans were upset about the extension because of when it was actually leaked.

I may have my timeline mixed up here but I think the extension hit the press right after Iowa lost to Louisiana and South Dakota State during the 2017-2018 season.

If Barta extends Fran and announces it right after the 2016-2017 season, there would not have been the outrage.

I think that's when he actually signed the extension. I thought it was announced after they'd lost to Purdue by 30.

Most Iowa fans were not happy with that extension and timing of it. But since that season, Fran has had a tournament level team so in hindsight the extension has been worth it.

That extension was after Iowa went 19-15 and were one of the first four teams out of the NCAA tournament, not after the type of results that Prohm will deliver for ISU basketball this season.
Cool story.

I think the next few years will tell us a lot. Luka has become a generational player.
When I've posed the question of who's more responsible for his success Fran or Frank, there really hasn't been a direct answer by most Iowa fans.

No question. It ended up working out. I'm just saying that let's not act like at the time of the extension there were Iowa fans erupting with joy.

Next year a lot will hinge on whether or not JW decides to come back or not. If he does, then I think Iowa will make the dance again.

I mean I guess it depends on how Iowa ends up finishing this year. If they bow out early in the tournament, waste this year with the POY, and then slowly diminish in quality, maybe it wasn't worth it.
