Connor Assalley is coming back.



The Iowa State placekicker announced on Saturday he will take advantage of the NCAA’s freeze on eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic and return for a “super senior” season in 2021.



The three-year starter has been one of the most accurate kickers in Iowa State history, connecting on 72.1 percent of field goals during his career, which ranks fourth in program history for field goal percentage. His 44 career field goals are the fourth most in program history while his 177 total kicks made are the second-most for the school.



Assalley went 13-of-19 on field goals in 2020 with a long of 42 yards. He connected on 48-of-50 extra point attempts.

Good news if the new guys make him the third string kicker.
Good news no matter how it sorts out. Assalley probably won't be kicking past college, but he has worked hard for 4 years and delivered some clutch winning kicks for us. I'll take that as a worst case base line any time. If the new guys can surpass that so much the better.

Statistically, Assalley has been one of our better kickers. Just missed a few head-shakers.

WE kind of got spoiled that one year with the transfer guy (forgot his name already) but it's not like we have a long and storied history of top-10 kickers.

His percentage isn't that great considering he rarely attempts one over 45 yards.

With that said, I am glad he's back as we know he is serviceable on the short kicks.
