Timely thread for me. My long time ex brother in law, a massive Hayden fan, texted me for the first time in many years after the game. First congrats to us, then goes into a tirade about if we had played them this year they'd of killed us and destroyed our season. Then sends another congrats text followed by us wearing black is copying them and straight from Hayden playbook. Then spells Fry... Frye. I reminded him that he actually never graduated from there, he didn't, he attended for about 7 years partying and fell short of hours... I know... that's hard to do. And how Sept 11th is going to be fun. Oh, and its Fry. I'm so enjoying this!!!
Those Fry fans were the worst. He had them believing they were blue bloods. He is the Super Bowl term starter and such. He is the one who made it rather nasty for the hardcore Hawkeye fans.
The first few mock the hok threads were cute, but now we're starting to slip into "OMG who the hell cares?" territory. I mean, it's great in all that Campbell in 5 years has finished better in final rankings than Fry ever did in his career, but it would actually mean more if Ferentz didn't build upon that. We're talking about things that happened 30-40 years ago. Only obsessed ISU fans and overly defensive hoks care.
Iowa fans have been uncharacteristically quiet after our NY6 bowl win.
To be fair if we finish 6th Matt Campbell will also accomplish something Kirk Ferentz hasn't done either. I do think we finish 7th or 8th though

Sometimes that sand can really get up in there I’m told and it very bothersome.
10 years and still holding a grudge against ISU...man, that's a lot of meds to keep from going crazy the whole time.
It's a fair comparison, as Hayden Fry came and changed the culture @ Iowa to one where they expect to win. Campbell has done the same thing @ Iowa State. Two GREAT Coaches who deserve to be compared. I hope Campbell stays @ Iowa State as long as Fry stayed @ Iowa.

If Campbell stays long term at ISU, football in the state will be a lot more fun and meaningful.

At least Twins keeps it to the in state board instead of constantly obsessing with them on the football board like some posters do.
This x100. Football in the state of Iowa will grow to become respected nationally by having two consistent top 25 teams. It will also lead to a more fierce and competitive rivalry. After Ferentz retires, Iowa will need to retain an assistant or make a good hire (like they’ve done the last 2 times). It will only help recruiting for both teams and it will lead to more national respect. The game at Ames will be an interesting one this fall.
It is crazy that 90% of Iowa fans seem to think their current basketball and wrestling seasons do not count at all.
