I am sure a key factor in Iowa accepting the bowl invite was the likelihood the other team would live up to the commitment. Say what you want about KF but he is very shrewd when it comes to scheduling. This played out perfectly for him.
Now Iowa fans can talk all off season how they were only 2 plays away from the CCG and likely CFP birth and in reality they didn't even have to play anyone that was noteworthy. Had Iowa ended in up in bowl game against a Coastal Carolina, Liberty, Army or West Virginia type team the phantasy would have been over.
KF delivers stinking pile of crap season and Iowa fans convince themselves its a chocolate soufflé'.
