Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

I hate to brag, but above was my prediction from Weds. Final score was 105-77, and I had 103-76. What do I win?

I knew our defense was atrocious and Iowa would likely hit the 100 mark. I also felt like going in that the Iowa players probably wanted to hang 100 on us.

With that being said.... I took some positives out of this game. I thought Iowa would come right out of the gates and put a beat down on us, but we actually had the lead with like 3 -4 mins left in the 1st half..... I considered that a small victory for us.

A gold star for the day champ!

Steve has brought us back to the "small moral victories" routine. It's really cool.

You have to realize that Prohm probably anticipated having Tre Jackson and Hinson in the starting 5 going into this season though. I think that could have really helped.

With that being said.... this team is just soft.... and Prohm's teams usually are it seems. Conditt looked so promising his freshman year, and now it looks like he deserves about 5 mins a game tops. So soft, and appears to not care? I hate to say that about anyone, but it's hard to not question if he even wants to be out there at times?

The defense has to improve dramatically.... and the overall toughness.

Honest question. What exactly are ISU fans hoping for out of basketball these days. Watching that game I don't see any player that ISU has that you should be thinking man this kid is gonna be an all conference type difference maker in the years to come. Has Prohm reduced this program to hoping he gets enough decent transfers each that he can just sneak into the NCAA tournament?

Soft is correct. It's why his teams have shot too many bad 3s the last couple years.
You've got to be able to drive and get fouls called on the other team. I'd love to have Wieskamp at ISU, good kid, good perimeter player who drives to the rim too.

It's not an accident that we went on a run in the first when we were driving and playing aggressively. Apparently, that was too hard for our guys to maintain, so they hung out on the perimeter and chucked garbage instead.

You don't have much choice but to bring in some transfers when guys keep leaving early for the NBA. Fran will never have that issue at Iowa. He'll always have lineups out there of kids that have played together for 3-5 years at Iowa, and possibly even before that in AAU.

ISU was without 2 starters last night too most likely in Tre Jackson and Hinson. And it's not easy to replace guys like Horton-Tucker, Wigginton, and Haliburton all leaving early.... who would have still been on the team last night had they stayed.

Prohm and ISU can't simply reload with 4 or 5 McDonald's All Americans when they lose guys to the NBA early. Prohm did not have a very good recruiting class this year IMO. Tyrese Hunter coming next year could be another NBA level player that could leave early possibly. But I'd still prefer that to just recruiting kids you think will be at ISU for 4 years.

But I do agree that right now I'm not seeing an NBA level kid on the current roster other than maybe Foster.... if he develops some, I think the NBA scouts will be all over someone like him. Outside of that, Prohm does need some talent infusion. I'm not sure what guys like Dubar and Blackwell have to offer myself? Defense? I hope so, because they look pretty limited offensively. We desperately need shooters IMO!!

I agree that Panathinaikos probably pays good money, but after Iowa disappoints in the tourney this year I think the lure of making another run at a final four brings Garza back.

Cute troll attempt. It really burns you guys to admit that Iowa has a really good team this year and the best player in college basketball.

And fadeway 3s at that.

This idea that a Wiggington and THT can't be replaced is just excuse making. Fred lost way better players every year and he didn't skip a beat. After year 2 he lost White (he was way, way, way better than losing a Wiggington). The following year Fred lost Clyburn, McGee, Babb and Lucious. The year after that was the biggest losses when he lost Kane and Ejim (both had all world years). Yet each year Fred would just keep getting players and keep winning.

So if you ISU fans thinking that Prohm losing Wiggington, THT and Haliburton is some excuse for having completely **** teams, you just have blinders on. Fred lost tons more over 3 years and he kept on winning.

I don’t see what I said that implied Iowa doesn’t have a good team, Garza isn’t a great player, or that isn’t based on evidence. I am willing to hear where you disagree.

This is the hard truth.

I've been very vocal that I think Iowa can be a 4-6 seed and make the round of 32. Garza is the best player in the country right now

Totally agree that Prohm has not done as good of a job replacing guys leaving early for the NBA as Fred did. No question. Prohm is not as good of a coach as Fred Hoiberg.... you are so right.

But my question to you is.... what if Fran had lost Garza, Wieskamp, and CJ Fredrick to the NBA... how would your Iowa team look this season? Would Fran have just replaced those 3 with equally good players? I'll give you a hint..... Iowa would be worse than ISU this season had that happened.

I'm no Prohm lover at all. I don't think he's a very good coach. But he did lose 3 REALLY good players to the NBA, and also had two starters that he thought he would have to start this year sitting out last night.

Yeah, the transfer game hasn’t changed a bit since Hoiberg was at ISU.

These trolls are so dense, or maybe just really stupid.

Prohm is responsible for his roster. If he can't keep a roster than can be competitive that is all his fault. ISU for the past decade has been transfer U, and continues to be transfer U. If that is the bed you sleep in, there is no reason to cry about players that leave as well (be that leaving either as a transfer or to the G league in Wiggs case or to the NBA in THT and Halibuton's case).
