Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

What will prob happen Friday is Nunge and Patrick McCaffrey will hit threes while Jobo and Fred are cold...That would be the ISU way.

Iowa fans can argue this all they want but Iowa team is Garza..Take Garza off floor and JW, jobo, Frederick arent wide open half the time.

My other thoughts are UNC has some good bigs...guards were not good at all.. out of control entire game on both ends.

So Iowa gets UNC, ISU and Gonzaga all at home? LIke to see Iowa outside their home court vs a top 20 team.

No fans is a huge benefit for Iowa this year IMO.

Iowa having no fans at games hasn't really made a difference in other years.

Now that I think about it, Iowa MBB team is probably having it's best financial year ever. They don't have to give away pizza and they have the same atmosphere.

Iowa looked good but I still don't trust their defense against quicker teams. UNC did almost nothing to expose their quickness advantage. They actually play a style that plays right in to what Iowa wants you to do. Very similar to how we matched up with them when Fred beat them in the tourney. There was a stretch there where UNC made their run and the refs called fouls every time down the floor, Iowa had some really bad calls go against them. Both teams did all night but there phantom calls against the Hawks about 3 times down in a row during that run.

That was a horrible looking shot. His job is to come in and play defense, rebound and be a hustle guy. If he happens to be open, take the shot. Him and Wieskamp are Iowa's two most athletic players.
I have to say Touisant but those 2 are next. I really feel Touisant playing well completes us.

Just checked the box score. 4th year Sophomore Jack Nunge 0-5 from 3? Is it normal for your backup center to hoist 5 three bombs? I'm sure he'll be 5-5 against ISU on Friday.

He was shooting too quickly i agree but I'm excited about his future. The good thing is his confidence is growing. It wss tough for the bigs with monster athletic bigs being thrown at them. That won't be the normal going forward

So what you are saying is if you slow down Garza then there is a snowballs chance in hell of the above occurrence happening with regularity.
Very very few teams can throw as many bodies at Garza as N Carolina did. They did as good of a job on him as anybody has and he still got 16 and 14. Most nights our shooters won't be required to shoot as much.

I agree about Frederick and Wieskamp being great last night.

I thought Bohannon handled the pressure just fine for the most part, but he did have a few TOs on bad passes. His dribbling and getting the ball up the court was fine. He is bad defensively

Nunge struggled I agree. Garza was a beast as usual. He got off to a bad shooting start with a lot of his shots being half way down and then rimming out. But he also finished strong and got the entire NC frontcourt into foul trouble which was key for Iowa. He also finished with 16 and 14 with 4 blocks and he did a great job of passing out of double teams, which was key for getting those open three point looks.

Iowa's defense is bad I agree.

Frans's kids know their roles. Connor doesn't need to shoot. Just take care of the ball, play defense and rebound. Patrick needs to supply energy off the bench. They don't need to do anything more than that.

Iowa has a good team, but still not sold on their defense being good enough to justify their ranking. Still thinking they are a top 20 team and get a 3-5 seed when it is all said and done, which is still a great season.
I think most of that honestly is fair. Not sure what to think of Jorbo's TO's because of the length of Carolina. If it persists then you should be concerned.
Who knows how Nunge is doing mentally or how much practice he's been able to have.

Turn it over all you want if you're going to chuck 16 threes at a 45% clip with regularity I guess.

How does Friday play out?

I dont see how ISU keeps it close. I think something along the lines of a 91-71 Iowa win.
