Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

Sets up well for Iowa:

",,The Bulldogs (3-0) last played on Dec. 2. Their next potential game is Dec. 19 against Iowa in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. ..."

Gonzaga and Baylor are the clear top 2 at this point. I think Iowa will still have their hands full.

Some Wieskamp love from ESPN.

Joe Wieskamp, Iowa: Yes, he opens up the floor for Luka Garza but also creates drama for opposing coaches on his own. You can't give Wieskamp too much room to shoot -- the 6-foot-6 athlete is 6-for-12 from the 3-point line thus far and two years removed from a 42% campaign from the 3 as a freshman. With Garza and Wieskamp, Iowa has a one-two combo that's just difficult for any team in the country to defend. That Wieskamp is comfortable floating when necessary or getting touches around the rim is an incredible asset for Fran McCaffery's program. You can't really put Wieskamp in a box this season.

This is the benefit of not having NBA players...

Was that a former Iowa State player I just saw on ESPN that the hot Toni Collins was giving some info on about signing a 3 year $27mil contract? She was give ISU some love!! They even called him the best backup point guard in the NBA.

For the players it is. All players dream of the NBA.
I was going to say, nothing wrong with it exactly, but just completely unheard of in the modern era of college basketball. Teams might have 2 or 3 upperclassmen at a time, but to have 7 guys last that long in a program is rare. Combination of what happens when you don't recruit NBA level talent and you DO recruit legacy players who would never transfer in a million years even if they have to red shirt or come off the bench for years.

You think if Bohannon, Wieskamp or Garza went to ISU they would be in the NBA right now?

Not all college players translate to the NBA.

Bohannon was a never for anybody. Weiskamp was talked up by Iowa people as a one and done. Garza has made himself a good CBB player. Only one that ISU would have considered was Weiskamp so discussion on him is the only relevant area. I feel confident in saying that he would have developed into a borderline NBA guy at ISU instead of a for sure Eiro guy at Iowa.

You all act like building a program ranked #3 in the nation with 4 or 5 year players is a bad thing.

Not having pro prospects develop into a top 10 is the exception no the rule. Next year once Fran loses the developed players EIU will be back to the bottom half of the B1G without Transfers/impact freshman to supplement the losses and fall back down to finge NCAA team.
Then like the years leading up to this one UI fans will be calling for Fran's job again.

B1G/ACC Challenge starts tonight, I think the B1G wins 8-4.

Wisconsin basketball has been doing this forever.
