Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

I enjoy watching Garza play, if your a fan of basketball, how can you not? Iowa is going to have a really good season this year and you should enjoy it. I don't think they are a final four team, simply due to the amount of usage that Garza has, is too reliant on one player. See below link that shows usage per player. He is #7 overall in the nation with every player (minus 1) with only 1 game played, vs. his 3. Not to mention all but 2 are from mid majors as well. I bet he is top of that list all season long. I look back to the 2014 season where Niang broke his foot and really de-railed any chance of gettting to the FF. That team had Monte, Naz, Thomas, Ejim & Kane (3 future NBA players & 2 overseas players) I just don't see that type of quality depth from this Iowa team. There area a lot of talented big men in the B1G this year, but i'm still not sure any of them can guard Garza. I watched about 10 minutes of Gonzaga play this year and should be a good measuring stick to see if Iowa is a Final Four contender or 2nd Weekend hopeful.

Great post. I hope Garza can get Timme in foul trouble and not vice versa. Timme reminds me of Christain Laetner.

Neither are playing after this year
Idk. One of them is playing at his peak level of competition, and the other could come back for the same reason he came back this year. (Not going to the NBA, not going to win a Natty/Big 10 title etc). Europe can wait another year.

I've been told neither are coming back

It would be awesome. That doesnt mean I think its going to happen.
I only say it because in recent history it is true. Iowa always has 4 year guys in their MBB program because nobody wants them after they graduate. You see, we here at Iowa State don't always have the "luxury" of 4 year guys. We are putting players in the pros.

I know Garza and Jorbo will have technically exhausted their eligibility after this year, but officially they could both be back. Similarly, guys like Frangaret, little Frangaret, Nunge and Frederick are going to get 6 years in the Iowa program unless one of them wants to grad transfer, thanks to this covid year. I have never seen a situation like this, where one program will have so many guys in their program for over half a decade at the same time. It is unprecedented. I can already see the stories that the DMR and Gazette will be writing about it in 2023-24.

I was half listening to a game while doing some paperwork the other day and one of the announcers made a crack about "You really came on in your 8th year".

Yep, broadcast partner was Jess Settles.

So let me get this straight.

ISU has much more talent than Iowa because of how many guys the Cyclones send to the pros.

Also, Iowa has won against ISU the last 2 seasons (soon to be 3) and 3 out of the last 4 (soon to be 4 out of 5).

Also, ISU is destined for another year under .500 overall this year which would make that a 3 out of 4 season occurrence.

Does that pretty much cover it?

ISU could win, it is one game and it is basketball. All it takes is for them to get hot.

Also, ISU has talent on their roster since they were able to land their transfer targets in the offseason. They just need a little time to gel.
