Are we seriously going to go through the whole winter, spring and summer with people saying that AA is not a good QB. God, take me to fall already.
Exactly. And Arnaud has had perfect timing and placement more often than not. :biggrin:
Um, now lets not go crazy toward the other end. Good placement often - but not perfect.
Actually Bates led us to 21 points in our second win to bail out AA who finished up the game.
Then when Bates quit, we had three games where the injured AA and offense had several dry periods.
That said, a bigger concern was that our receivers were usually covered in their 4 yard patterns.

FWIW, I thought Meyer looked better in '07 than '06, so I found those stats surprising as well, although your point is valid.
I would only have said Meyer looked better those last few games of the season. Before that, he looked to me like he was struggling mightily.
Yeah, I guess he got worse as a '06 progressed. He was playing better ball early on, and that slump just continued till he hit rock bottom against UNI in 07, and then he seemed to improve some.
Not coincidentally, perhaps, two of the worst offensive lines ISU has ever fielded. Left tackle was like a turnstyle to defensve ends, until Dedrick finally settled in and stopped the bleeding.
Good point..only improvement would be fewer punts....and he has no control over that. He did a super job.
All I can say is that honestly, I'd have loved to see AA play a whole season where he wasn't trying to come back from a 14 point deficit every game. That really alters the way a quarterback plays. Some of those were his fault and can be attributed to him. none the less, our D stopped no one this year and really put him and our O, in a must score situation every time. That's a lot of pressure for a Sophomore.
Also, to the poster who said that Meyer played against better Defenses, I'm not so sure about that. I think the numbers are skewed because of all the high powered offense that there is in this league this year.
I won't cast any real votes until after next year. I'll say, we were all pretty high on Meyer after his Sophomore year, then the wheels fell off the wagon. I really don't see that happening here. AA is learning to deal with adversity now. He'll be ready for it in the future. I think, when Meyer had to learn, it was too late. The next two years will be interesting. And I'm sure we'll here, on more than one occasion how Tiller should be in there because he's so much better. I like where our offense is headed. Even if AA doesn't improve, it's going to be the least of our problems the next two years. AA did a solid job this year. We need to shore up our D and do it fast. At this point, we are going to have to have a team that can score at least 40 points in 3 and a half quarters of football, just to give us a shot at the end of the game.

True, but in a season like this, you'll always have the people who believe the back-up QB, especially the one who left, was the savior. Our only 2 wins came because the teams were so bad that we played, that our Defense didn't hurt us. This season had nothing to do with our offense. To be honest, they played better than I expected them to. Our Defense killed us this year. AA can't carry the team to victory on his back when our own Defense is tying his shoelaces together and saying they aren't going along for the ride. Personally, I saw AA put the O on his back against UNLV, Colorado and A&M, our Defense just told him no, they wouldn't let him win.

I think AA was handicapped by playcalling also. Against Nebraska at beginning of game, he was asked to throw three bubblescreens when our wide receiver could not block a mole in the ground. Bad game plan when we could not block the lone defender. The defense came out and played well the first two series and then poof after the bubblescreens collapsed like chocolate next to a furnace. Then Bob McF saw the light and said we must play like Big 12 football.
AA was nursing a bad shoulder, we had no prepared back up QB to come in for AA if he got hurt worse, and we just switched our OL around. I think those three had a lot to do with the playcalling at Baylor and Nebraska.
