Perhaps we (science) needs to get a clearer picture of what asymp is if this is what they're going to find.

Would 'moderate' mean someone lightly coughed one time with no other symptoms and that's what happened?

I’m guessing a light fever and a little stuffiness. Something like allergies.

I think quicker, easier, cheaper, and more readily available testing will be even more important than a vaccine IMO.

Unless Covid turns less effective (which from what I understand is the case for most coronaviruses) I don't see how we really get back to normalcy without a vaccine.

I can see stuffiness...like I'm stuffy every morning, but man if someone has any sort of fever at this point that has to be a red flag to at least not head out to hang with people doesn't it?

Depends on the level. They have said 99.5 for temp. If you are running a half to one degree warm, you may not notice especially on those 90 degree days.

Besides, how many people go to work when they are very sick, just so they don't burn a sick/vacation day in the past. I know people that would be coughing up a storm and you can tell they feel awful, but they come in anyhow because like heck if they are burning a day off on being sick.

Pre-Covid for sure but if people are still doing this at this point without at least getting tested that's pretty alarming.

right but I’ve seen reports that many scientsits think once we have around 15-20% infected we reach herd immunity bc 40-50% are asymptomatic etc..
Iowa may not be in as good of shape as was once thought...

Iowa stats are gonna be lower that’s what the glitch was I believe.. not other way around.

cases nationally are dropping...every trend is downward.

As for herd immunity..scientists think we are closer than most think bc of asymptomatic folks. Could be 40-50% who show no symptoms already have immunity..

Never understood how an asymptomatic person can be a spreader unless you lick them or they lick you etc.. If they aren’t sneezing, coughing, etc..how are they spreading.. Talking can produce virus particles but you have to be close..

Dead serious question - Why is it alarming now, and not before? This is exactly how influenza/RSV/Strep etc. all spread every year. They are all incredibly hard for young children to deal with/get over. Yet no one bats an eye when they bring it to work and spread it to people with families that take it home to their kids.

If you're sick, stay the **** home. Not just because of the current climate we find ourselves in.

I'm curious how many people in the last two weeks were getting tested for the second time? I haven't had a test yet myself, haven't felt any symptoms and I am one who does most of my work by myself and wasn't a hugger/handshaker or close talker. I wish they would have given better information, but you can tell they went for clicks with the headline because their data was very limited.

The WHO is still stating herd immunity is not possible until 70% of the population has been infected.

The first data glitch in Iowa was causing the positivity rate to be inaccurately low which is the metric used to determine if schools should be online.

The current major driver of the spread is by asymptomatic carriers.

This has been stated over and over and over again but those things can be alleviated and don't kill like Covid does.

I've had AWFUL bouts with strep but had antibiotics within a day.

It's alarming now because the information is widely available about what Covid can do compared to those other things and we're in the very beginning stages of finding out therapies etc..

I don't get surprised very often by selfish things people do and/or demand, must mean I'm getting old.

Yeah perhaps 'alarming' isn't the right term and I've had some interactions that made me feel like whomever I was talking to had read next to nothing about it.

And there has been the other spectrum, where people had read too much and believed everything. As we have seen, there has been a lot of opinions that either have changed or been flat out wrong. People need to be able to make reasonable conclusions without just accepting a random article they read.

One issue with this has been that Covid symptoms has changed a lot and is getting longer as we learn more. Fever is the main one obviously but it can get confusing at times.

Also, the mentality of toughing it out when you don't feel well needs to change, regardless of Covid. People that have a hacking cough and a box of tissues next to them all day should not be at work. Managers could help with this by asking those people to go home and rest.

I've learned that any article with 'Could' in the title usually has actual useful information about 1/2 way through, maybe.

Yeah our country is pretty bad at this. Hopefully the expanded work from home will continue and people will be able to stay home when sick in the future while still being able to work if they feel well enough.
