I don't think that at all. Hendry has said he would like to upgrade the pitching staff and just re-signing Dempster is not an upgrade.

This is a good sign as he's a great person to have in the clubhouse. And after his closing years and transition to being a starter, I think he's deserved it. Ask me this in his first year as starting and I would have though you're nuts.

I think there are a lot of teams in MLB that would take Randy Johnson as their 5th starter. Old Unit > Marquis.

He is OLD!
A one year contract would be great for him.
He could mentor the younger guys.
I would love to see him in a set up role like Marmol last year, but I am pretty sure that would never happen.

So Dempster is a done deal, on ESPN they said it was close, but not done yet?

You also said that trading for Kevin Gregg had nothing to do with Wood. I would be shocked if Peavy becomes a Cub this offseason.

Another reason for the Cubs to sign Randy Johnson is so they never have to face him again. He's 13-0 against them with a 1.84 ERA in his career.

I would take Peavy and Wood over Dempster. ANYDAY
Would love to see a rotation that won't be in flux.

4 Years for 52 million is Way to much after one steller year.
