Tight End U

Nice post.

Two issues:

UNLV clip: they didn't lose the TE, defender was screened by the umpire.
Central Michigan: that was a flanker back, not the TE. He was split but that was no TE.

Come now, don’t be ridiculous. Everybody knows that anything you wear on the internet is true.

I guess wearing something on the internet is better than being on the internet naked. Unless you are doing porn, then its probably better to not wear anything on the internet.

The title of this thread had me wondering if somebody was advertising porn.

I will agree with VeloClone, these are not all TEs. Having said that, the TE position has really changed a lot in the last few years. Most of these guys are not only big and strong, they are darn fast. Kolar is a guy that can really cover a lot of ground once he gets moving. Still miss Butler lining up in the TE position and blowing by the safety and LBers on the way to a TD.

BTW, Iowa will have a good TE this year, just because they are Iowa. The TE is their bailout receiver, and they use him a lot.

We're certainly not TEU but we have 3 great TE's on our roster.

Honestly, when I watch that video I think the TE's are prospering because their OC actually designs plays for them to get involved. Was it Messingham or Mangino that targeted the TE like 10 times all season?

Gotta at least make an effort to throw them the ball. Manning loves drawing it up

I feel like there was a year or two where we really tried to put the pistol in place and I was not in love with it.

I refer to those as the “Paul Rhoads knows jack **** about offense and is throwing anything against the wall to see if it sticks” years.

George Kittle, top 2 tight end in the NFL right now, only caught 48 passes in his entire college career. For reference, Kolar had 51 receptions last season alone as a sophomore. How stupid is Ferentz for not attempting to utilize him more than that? That alone should disqualify them from the discussion of "TEU".

Kittle also spent much of his time at Iowa battling injuries

Kittle rarely got a chance to play at 100%. I think his speed and endurance were probably effected some. What does standout is the high percentage of his catches that were for TDs. 48 catches and 10 TDs is pretty damned impressive, as is 62 catches for 10 TDs. I'm not knocking Kolar at all. He's good.

You want to go on the record that Kolar is > Kittle ? Be my guest.
Not yet. But I will go on the record as saying that Kolar has a much better coach who knew/knows how to utilize his size and athleticism than Kittle did in college.

not yet? No doubt his college numbers will end up being far greater but I'm willing to bet there is little or no chance he accomplishes as much as Kittle already has in the league.
