Iowa Football Recruiting

Including a current player in Colbert yesterday. It's amazing how soon they forget all of these??

Gonzo- Colbert himself said yesterday that being inside the football facility was like walking on eggshells all the time, and that he agreed with how some of the ex players said the environment was there for the black players. But he did say it was like night and day difference so far this year in the last few months.

So is that all that matters to you? Not what has been going on there for nearly 20 years, but what it's hopefully going to be like going forward? The past is the past? Do you think KF had no idea what was going on inside his own program by people like Doyle, BF, and Wallace? How could KF be that detached from his program when most people say it's the exact opposite.... that KF was in total control and knew everything. Which is it?

I must've missed the part where Colbert called KF a racist.

Are you able to understand that what's happening now and moving forward is in direct response to what's happened in the past? So just by virtue of the fact that things are better now, and the fact that I'm happy that things are better now with Doyle gone and other positive steps undoubtedly coming down the road, it's a pretty clear acknowledgement that I'm not happy with the situation in the past as it relates to African-American players.

Do you not believe the players and players' families when they say they support KF as the HC and the guy best suited to lead the program through all this?

The thing that makes zero sense to me in all of this was we have been told that kirk knew something was up 2-3 years ago and allegedly tried making changes. Nobody would engage in giving feedback and then 2-3 years later when the **** hits the fan he claims he knew nothing. Confused.

This has been explained before. Several years ago they recognized that the retention of black players was not good. Kirk created a diversity leadership group to address that issue. The leadership group brought up things like not being allowed to wear hats and jewelry in the football complex (rules which were subsequently eliminated) and the twitter ban (which was upheld by player vote). None of the other allegations were brought up.

You forgot they couldn't even wear hooded sweatshirts but yeah Kirk isn't a racist

The "review" isn't even back yet, correct? But yet, they paid off Doyle to get out and keep his mouth shut. Why? The review hasn't even come back yet. So they did that to Doyle based off what players were saying.

Well..... fine..... but players were saying the same things about BF and Wallace too, but they weren't paid off to get out and keep their mouth's shut. Why not?

Once again, it's just another situation that Barta has totally mishandled. They haven't been consistent at all. If Doyle needed to go, then so should BF and Wallace. And if all 3 of them needed to go, then KF should have also been shown the door for either knowing about it and allowing it..... or for not knowing what was going on inside his own program that he's responsible for.

This has been totally botched from the start, but not surprising given Barta is in charge. And when you're this inconsistent, it generally means you're guilty as sin.

I feel really bad for you that the Iowa program is going to move ahead and get better. You can't beat us in football. You took a blow-out loss in your bowl and regressed to barely .500 while Iowa got a blow-out win and finished with 10 wins. Our basketball program is better than yours right now. Our wrestling program is back at the top of the mountain. This is seriously the best thing that's happened to you in a while. This is literally all you and a few select others here have, to sit around rooting for and hoping for racism, and hope that things don't get better for Iowa's student-athletes. Sad. It has to kill you that the players and former players are behind KF as the man to continue leading the program.

I know you don't understand this... most Hawk fans don't.... but this isn't about sports, and there's a lot more important things in life than sports. Like how you treat people for instance.

And for a LOT of kids that played football for Iowa and KF.... they weren't treated anywhere near like a person should be treated. That is MUCH more important than your stupid bowl wins, or wins over ISU, or your basketball team or wrestling teams..... but you wouldn't understand that.

Your goal, the local media's goal, and obviously the goal of KF, Barta, and the Iowa program is to sweep this ugly 20 year period under the rug and act like it didn't happen because sports is what rules their lives and evidentally nothing else.

So go ahead and brag about your stupid wins playing stupid games.... but there's more important things in life. The way the minority players were treated over the last couple decades is an embarrassment to the state.... no matter how many bowl wins you might have gotten from it.

This does not pass this sniff test.

You're hoping racism wins in Iowa City. That's an embarrassment.

I still can't believe more people in the media aren't talking about when Colbert admitted how bad it was in the Iowa program before this past month or two. Nothing. Crickets.

But with the media in this state it's no wonder. Colbert confirmed that walking into that facility every day was like walking on eggshells. It was not a good environment at all for minorities. But the media is only talking about how the place has changed for the positive now and everything is better.

My concern is that there is absolutely NO way in the world KF hasn't known what his program has been like for the last 20 years. Didn't know Doyle was a total d-bag human being. Didn't know his son was a hothead that would yell demeaning comments at the black players. Didn't know that Wallace was just as bad.

It was like KF wasn't even there for the past 20 years..... he knew nothing. KF said he was shocked when this all came down because he didn't know anything was going on? Really KF? Then you should be fired for not knowing that your black players were being treated like this.

And don't say they weren't being treated bad..... Colbert confirmed that very fact yesterday..... but yet...... crickets. It's just SO disgusting.

Weird. What does everyone think about your fearless leader tweeting suicide jokes and deleting them without an apology?

You're hoping racism wins in Iowa City. That's an embarrassment.

I'm an embarrassment for asking for accountability from a racist football program where almost 60 former players came forward and spoke about how they were treated there? Ummmm..... okay.

It sure is becoming a strange world folks. Whatever. Cheer on your disgusting program. Have fun!
