Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

TP.. Garza scored 44 and the next highest scoring guy was 12, and that was Connor. Iowa shot 20% from the 3 point line. Michigan didn't slow down Garza, but they sure as s*** slowed down everyone else.
Exactly- pace of game/number of possessions has a big impact on that- when you are giving up lay-ups 15 seconds or less into the possession, you are going to have more possessions yourselves too. The ability of teams to inflict their pace on opponents is a huge factor. 90 points is irrelevant if you can’t get stops. Michigan was the first team that tried this approach, it worked, and several others used it in conference play. Still can’t think of one guy, who off the bounce, has to create his own shot. If there is no LG in the middle, the perimeter defensive pressure is going to ramp up even more.

Outside of Luka, I can't think of anyone that can do it consistently for them. And that's what happened at the end of the year. Defenses said screw trying to double Luka, the guards are not going to sit back and make wide open threes from the inside out.

7. IOWA

It is not too often that Iowa is mentioned among championship contenders. But the Hawkeyes are a must in that conversation for this season, although that comes with one caveat:
Luka Garza must return for his senior season. One of the best and most productive players in the sport last season, it would be Garza and then everyone else competing for national player of the year honors if he decides to head back to Iowa City for one last season. In doing so, Iowa would have arguably the most stunning offense in the sport with Jordan Bohannon, Joe Weiskamp, CJ Fredrick, the McCaffrey brothers and an underrated five-man 2020 recruiting class. An Iowa team without Garza is more of a middle-of-the-pack Big Ten team, one that would hover around the 8 or 9-seed line. With Garza, however, the Hawkeyes are a potential Final Four team that could go down as one of the best in school history.

Is Franny still the coach? Ok, then we can just stop with title talk.

Underrated recruiting class.............I can’t read past that part.

Love the hovering around the 8 or 9 seed comment, makes the whole thing.

Fully agree. Anything less than an Elite 8 is a disappointment

Too bad there isn't even going to be a season.

Will Garza and JorBo hang out another year to play in the 2021-22 season?

The Jess Settles, 7th year senior, plan.

BTW, did Settles get a degree?

Garza isn't going in this draft so it's pointless talking about it.

Yep. Iowa will be preseason top 15 or so, will have some weird early losses and get told to relax, will fade to a 7 seed and lose in the first or second round

Got a certificate for something at Kirkwood. Or Kegwood.
The Deadwood!
