OR, he stole some gear while on an unofficial visit and ISU quit recruiting him. I thought that story was pretty well known.
You’re right. Cause talking to you about it is worse than if I was talking to a wall. You constantly move the goal posts. First it’s offers then you move it to stars or rankings. But for you to claim your qb is a four star recruit after he was a LOW 3 star, still with zero p5 offers, and only got the rating bump AFTER he committed to Iowa with zero additional camps or film is absolutely asinine. You’re claiming hes some fantastic recruit but then turning around and sh****** on ISU’s for the same thing. Absolute garbage troll attempt by you, per usual
ISU quit recruiting a kid because he may or may not have lifted a sweatshirt, but offered a full ride and stayed true to a kid who pled guilty to felony armed robbery?
The Eno thing has me thinking, in your opinion, who has been both Iowa State and Iowa’s three biggest whiffs when it comes to recruiting in the last 5ish years? Either from missing on a recruit who turned out great or getting someone that you thought would be a stud and turned out to be a dud?
Can I go back 10 years? Because this conversation begins and ends with Melvin Gordon on the Iowa side.
The 247 evaluators have mentioned several times how they have been able to dig into film way more than they have been able to in prior years. They have been watching film on players ranked in the same range, at the same position, and comparing the recruits against each other (i.e. watching all the QBs ranked 10-30, and adjusting rankings based on how those guys’ film compares against each other). I’m sure they would rather see these guys in person, but it’s not like they are just moving guys up and down on a whim.
Pretty much. Although I'm sure you know the details of the Isheem Young story. Pretty sure he just got probation and wasn't the one with the gun...and I'm betting he came in with 2 strikes. Recruiting isn't black and white. Maybe they didn't like Twedt's progress and used the sweatshirt as an excuse to back away. Or maybe they cared more about people stealing from the AD than they do about what happened years ago in DC. Maybe if Twedt was a four star can't miss prospect, they overlook the sweatshirt. Who knows?
Campbell definitely took a risk on Young. But how many of his players have gotten in ANY kind of trouble with the law in Ames? I mean, there was a couple of kids running around with air pistols, Brian Peavy running from the cops after doing some graffiti on a bridge that already had a bunch of graffiti. Even MIPs, DUIs, public intox are super rare. Zero felony type offenses. I feel like Campbell has earned the benefit of the doubt here for the way he runs his program and who he brings in.
Where did I say anything about him being a fantastic recruit. He was our backup plan. You guys should know all about those.
Ratings this year mean less than they pretty much ever have. If the 24/7 guys were better at evaluating than actual college coaches, they'd be on a staff somewhere making a lot more money.
I get it if they offered Twedt, didn't like the way he was progressing, cooled on him and backed off. I've just heard the whole "kid stole a shirt so he got his offer pulled" thing more than once and it makes zero sense. The second the Young thing is mentioned it's all about how everyone deserves a second chance.
KF's whole policy of not allowing kids to take other visits without letting him know first is just yet another indication of how KF wanted complete "control" over these kids.
There's a really long list of these types of actions by KF, and it's pretty disgusting if you ask me. He told kids how to dress, what music they could listen to, how to wear their hats, tattoos, other college visits they could take, how they had to come to him first if they felt threatened in his program, not being allowed to use social media, etc, etc, etc... and the list goes on.
It's obvious that it's a VERY controlling atmosphere there.... but yet.... we're supposed to believe in such a controlling environment created by KF himself, that he didn't know anything was going on for 20 years there?

It doesn't have to make sense to us. The only thing we know about these kids is measurables, stats and highlights. Each spot that a program fills is extremely valuable. Having a kid come in that washes out or gets in trouble is a huge negative for a program. So, if the coach talks to a recruit and decides he isn't a great fit or is going to be more of a negative than a positive, it isn't smart to bring him in. The coaches are the ones who actually have a relationship with the recruit. And it's their high paying job on the line to make the judgment call on fit and potential. Doesn't really matter why ISU backed away other than recruiting pi$$ing contests.
Hopefully more participate but here are mine, going back 10 years though.
