Iowa Football Recruiting

"I've struggled with ADHD all my life and have been on medication for as long as I can remember. People in the Iowa football program were aware of my learning disability."

You’re right, he said he was not tested for a learning disability until his 2nd semester on campus.

Tested at Iowa. To be on meds as long as long he can remember means he's been tested before, hence why he said they were aware.

Correct, which is why I said you were right (implying that I was wrong).
Your tested at Iowa comment has nothing to do with it though, if they were all aware.

Say Doyle wasnt the one to post his grades, and it was a different coach, how hard is that for Kirk to find out? Are coaches uncomfortable around him too?

Lol the thing is, it's really not. Blind test:

Player 1. Composite rating: .8755; National Ranking: 474; Other offers: LSU, Michigan, Texas A&M

Player 2. Composite rating: .8410; National Ranking: 1222; Other offers: Akron, Army, Buffalo

Like that Army offer a lot

Funny how Iowa fans always brag about taking 2 star recruits and putting them in the NFL, but they don’t think other schools can do that.

Montgomery and Hakeem Butler weren’t highly recruited at all. You guys probably laughed at them as recruits too.

Look at Mike Rose's lists. He's an outstanding football player.

No one said they can't. It's just that putting a guy that isn't even ranked in the top 1200 players in the country above a guy that the defending national champions wanted seems silly.

This isn’t true at all. I am positive that at least a couple of the kids in Iowa State’s class will end up being studs. But there is a difference between taking a few developmental kids with no/few P5 offers, and having nearly your entire class consist of those type of players.

Iowa had a class like Iowa State’s back around 2007ish - mostly lightly recruited developmental players. They hit on a few studs (like Micah Hyde), but most of the players from that class washed out, and Iowa went 7-6 and 4-8 when that class got to be upperclassmen.

It is waaaayyyy more difficult to build a program by consistently identifying an entire class full of under-recruited players.

We have a few guys without P5 offers. It's not like the entire class is made up of guys that are only getting recruited by MAC schools. With that being said, why is it that you guys get to be all excited about Labas, who literally was only offered by MAC schools, but make fun of Charles Wright? Charles has an NC State offer, which I believe is in the ACC right?

Its the majority of the class. IIRC, something like 10 of the 14 commits have zero or one other P5 offers. It’s not only offers that matter - most people look at a combination of offers and rating from the recruiting services. Iowa State’s commits thus far are lackluster in both of those areas.

Yeah I understand what you're saying. I also think that we've come to trust Matt and his staff with their evaluations of players, just like you and Iowa fans have trusted Kirk's evaluations. Will all of these guys pan out? Not a chance, but there are likely a few that end up being very good. The entirety of the class doesn't have to be detrimental to the success of the program in the future, especially when considering the class in front of it, and whatever the 2022 class ends up being.

We'll all just have to think back in three years and remember what we thought or who we believed were going to be good, and see if they actually panned out. Recruiting is weird. Joseph Scates is the third best recruit in the history of Iowa State, however has yet to play even close to his recruiting ranking, while guys that were rated much much lower are all conference.

Campbell has certainly done a good job of identifying talent thus far. I’ll put it this way - most Iowa fans would be pissed if they had a recruiting class like Iowa State’s right now, even though Iowa has been one of the best programs in all of college football at developing under-recruited players. And you are lying to yourself if you don’t think Iowa State fans would be mocking the hell out of Iowa fans if the recruiting classes of the two schools were flipped.

It’s fine to have faith in your school and coaching staff - that’s what fandom is about. But even you have to admit this is an underwhelming recruiting class on paper. You can be hopeful that CMK can develop these guys, but that’s all it is at this point - hope.
